Motor Trend does not award different categories. All new or significantly updated cars sold in the US are eligible for the award. In other words, the Camaro will be competing with the Malibu (among others) for the golden calipers.

It will be interesting to see whether or not the new Camaro makes Car and Drivers 10 best list. I believe the 2015 Mustang made the list this past year.

Oh wells...still glad to see these cars made it to the event. I see the new Malibu is there as well. I think it will be difficult for the Camaro to win COTY when results are spread across all different types of cars, but you never know?

I think the reason they don't include the 2.0T is because it isn't in production yet.

The 2016 Mustang will not be eligible. It was in last year's (2015) competition.

I thought of that, but I'm not sure. I don't think the ZL1 or Z/28 competed when they were new.
