I'd go 4L80E I've got a friend who has been mid 8's with one. Lower first gear and the trans can hold 800rwhp.

PATC called and said they found no hard part problems. The 3-5-R Clutches were badly worn/burned. Something about too much clearance and the "adaptives" regardless of volume settings would not compensate for. 4-5-6 pack (power glide clutch set, I think) were slightly worn. They had not been into converter yet. 20,000+ miles total and the last 1 3/4 year of drag slicks. 3 sets of 315-60r 15's Drag Radials and 2 sets of 29/10.5 w's Bias Ply Slicks. I would have liked it to have lived longer but the builder talks as if even he was impressed with the condition considering the power and usage. Next time, if and when, a high level 4L80 build will be in order. From what I have been reading "Jakes" and several others appear to offer builds with substantially greater than 800 capability. I hope! Still looking for others experienced with 2nd gear starts. Did not think to ask PATC about how the trans would hold up to 2nd gear hits but will before they finish build.
