F-no, there not even close. they named thereselves after a AIC song so IMO there are a want to be, while a decent band there is no comparison to AIC IMO! what I am saying that there are better bands, AIC being one!

This IMO is something I would expect from Motley Crüe...
See I think Motley Crue are way ahead of Godsmack. Their music isn't technically proficient or have in depth lyrics. Then again, neither does Godsmack. Godsmack is a decent band but I get irritated with Sully's "billy goat" voice. Obviously it's not as bad as Eddie Vedder's billy goat. But Sully has that same tonal range as Scott Stapp(Creed).

Of all the "Nu-Metal" bands that came out in that era, I think Distrubed was way better than Godsmack. Least lyrically their music was different and musically I liked listening to them more. Love David Draimen's voice as well. Even earlier "Nu-Metal" bands(Korn) I preferred over Godsmack. And yeah, you really can't compare Godsmack to Alice in Chains. A Chains is a way better band. As a guitarist myself, I never really enjoyed much of the 90's and 2000's rock. However, Jerry Cantrell is a guitarist that I always enjoyed. He always had cool riffs and could at least play(which is something you can't say for a lot of the Nu-Metal guitarist).

Just because they named theirselves after a AIC song doesn't make them wannabes, there is such a thing as being inspired by a band, it is a fact they are fans of AIC, and admit to being inspired by them along with many other bands.

All bands have been influenced by other artists, and all of them wanted to play like their favorite bands when they started playing..

I don't see the problem here, we have more music to listen to because these two bands were inspired to play because they were influenced by other bands to do so.

Everything in music has been done a thousand times over, just twisted around a little with different lyrics..

not sure I see an issue, I don't think one band is as good or origional as another, simply my opinion.

On topic, I haven't cared for Godsmack since a few albums ago. I listened to the new song on XM as well, and was just kind of "meh" about it.

Dude no way!! Best song ever. Thought I was the only one who loved that song.

All I know is, I let it go because the cold never bothered me or some sh*t like that anyway.

I like Godsmack, but I can't get into this one. Most of their recent stuff has been pretty 'meh' to me, but that happens with almost every band. First couple albums are pretty good, then it just tapers off -maybe with the occasional spark of genius later into their career. But most often a bands best work is within their first 5 years of making it, 10 if they're something special.

By that logic, Seether is a Veruca Salt wannabe

Jet was also named after a song, as was Deep Purple, and quite a few others. Doesn't really mean anything other than the group liked that one song.
