Respectfully disagree, This is a smart move by ford, especially if they offer cheap hp options similar to how GM did with the cobalt SS. With an IRS and a turbo 4 and decent brakes, it would be quite a potent package. Also the aftermarket would eat it up since its stupid easy to get more power out of a turbo 4. It wouldn't surprise me to see 400+ hp turbo mustangs soon afterwards. I hope GM will make a turbo version of the 2.5ltr.

Yup. A turbo 4 option in both the forthcoming next gen pony cars is an aftermarket vendor's dream... easy boo$t.

The problem i see, is ford coming out with a better "base car". Im not that impressed with GMs 2.0 turbo. A 2.3 turbo would make alot more torque compare to just 2.0ltrs. Folks have been stroking Mitsubishi evos to 2.2-2.3ltrs for years.

It's good to see Camaro guys catching on to the potential.

Indeed this is the next chapter of the pony wars... 4-cyl turbo powerplants. If/when Ford releases a 300+(?)hp 2.3 turbo-4 in the next gen Mustang, Chevy will need to answer back at least close enough to stay on par. Just like the 6-cyl & 8-cyl wars in the 5th gens... this is a continuing good rivalry... competition is good & fun at the same time.

You should care.... Anything Ford does Chevy will likely follow with. Whatever Ford does will improve the Camaro and whatever Chevy does will improve the Mustang.....

I have to say though I could give a **** if there is a four cylinder option... If it's not a V8 no thanks...

I wouldn't doubt if it came with more than 300HP, and I'm sure its TQ number is that or higher.

These little guys are going to be a hit with the younger crowd that can't afford the top of the line V8, but want the potential for nice power to rival some modern V8s with not much more than a tune.

I could be tempted, but honestly I'd like to get my hands on a DI V6 with about 340 HP / 290 - 300 TQ in a 3,400 lb package, and then mod her for another 20 - 30 HP.

Thats enough fun for me

I could see a SVO Mustang, but leave off the silly double wing, would be a great little track car.

With this news it is almost a given that the next gen Camaro (maybe even the 2014 refresh?) will get a 4 cylinder version.

What I want to know is how the next gen Mustang and Challenger will look like! Real images, not just speculations.

That's awesome I hope Chevy offers a turbo 4 also since it will draw a crowd that never really looked at either car and thats a good thing. Hell they could offer these with a 2stoke motor for all I care just as long as they offer a fast version and keep building them.

Less weight and add highly tuneable turbo 4s w/ decent mpg ratings... I think/hope both next gen Mustangs and Camaros will surely have these important factors. V8 loyalists may not want them but Ford/Chevy will strategically market these to the ma$$ public.

Anybody that says they don't care what the competition is doing needs to turn their blinders off. If you really care about your brand, you should care what the competition is doing. Why, because its going to end up making whichever one your prefer get better. When competition is going strong the consumer wins.

ah see, I'm not really brand loyal, I drive what "moves" me I've owned GM, Ford, and Chrysler... Currently own both GM and Ford vehicles.

While I have owned more GM than anything else since 1996, I don't base my buying decision specifically on brand, But rather on wants, desires, and needs and whether or not the vehicles I am looking at will fulfill those.

However I will only ever buy American when it comes to new vehicles, as I prefer my money to filter back into an American company..

But a highly tuned EcoBoost 4 unique to the Mustang and maybe a couple other lower volume special cars will be more expensive to build than a NA V6 that is share with more and higher volume parts of the Ford lineup.

As for sticker price cost, Ford is already offering EcoBoost 4s as extra cost options over base NA V6s in some of their cars.

No 4-cylinder model is going to rival the V8s. The turbo 4 is nothing more than an ingenious way to sell the same power as a V6, all while charging more upfront, having an easier time lying about fuel economy, and giving their dealers a huge extra profit source down the road when they start billing for turbo replacements.
