I have a new 2010 Silverado V6 AT that does vibrate at 1400 RPM especially when cold. I have suspected this was actually an exhaust vibration as it will do it at any speed eliminating the driveshaft. I have not spoken to the dealer about it but you may want to try to recreate the vibration in other gears to eliminate (or not) the driveshaft being the culprit. It makes a simmilar sound.
Good luck! -Mark. |

For those of you still struggling - If the dealer can't or won't find/fix it I had a game plan that might be worth a shot for those that have not figured it out yet - Add an exhaust pipe hangar and clamp somewhere in the system (maybe in the first or last third of the exhaust pipe would be my guess) It might work better if it had a piece of heavy steel attached as well. The idea would be to try to shift the resonant frequency away to a different frequency where it would not occur during normal operating conditions. If the resonant frequency of the exhaust pipes is altered enough, the sound will go away or become less objectionable. If the RPM where the vibratiion occurs changes after the modification effort, you know you are on the right track. Move or add hangars to fine tune it. If all else fails this would be worth a try. This is a job GM's NVH department should have done for us. -Mark. |

Every material has a resonant frequency where that material will suddenly become much louder when subjected to a certain frequency range. You can try to find the source and add sound deadener which adds mass or else live with it. The stock exhaust is probably as good as you're going to get from a resonance control standpoint as most aftermarket systems reduce those controls for added volume and flow and reduced mass.

I have a 2011 Camaro and I am having the same problem. I brought my camaro back to the dealer for this problem and they stated that the driveshaft was out of balance and changed it... did not fix the problem. The dealer stated that GM was showing that their were some complaints on this issue, but because their wasn't enough complaints that they weren't going to do anything about it. I did not pay $30,000 for a car to vibrate like it does....

It seems like this is a 2011 V6 automatic issue. My 2010 does not have this issue. I used the paddle shifters to shift into 6th gear at 45mph. It was running about 1200rpm. I has just a slight vibration (hardly noticeable) but it went away as soon as I sped up a little. The engineers need to find what changes were made from 2010 to 2011 models. I would bet that they will find something, could be as simple as a material change in the motor or transmission mounts or even a change in the mounting points of the exhaust. To something complicated as a reprogram of shift points.

Sounds like TCC shudder. Your dealer will need to replace the torque converter. Tell them there is a TSB for this.
