haha, but with parenting like that, the kid didn't even have a chance. If dad thinks it's a good idea, why the heck would the kid ever think otherwise???

Don't blame the kid in this - the dad is the moron here.

Unfortunately the kid is just going to be another statistic.

Hopefully WHEN (not if) he totals the car, he doesn't kill anyone else.

And hopefully if he survives, dad learns a valuable lesson and makes him buy himself a used Civic or Focus or Cobalt or something befitting a 16 year old

trust me, the kid's downgrade will still be pushing 300HP or more. If the dad has the kind of money to mod an already expensive car like that, the kid will be downgrading to a "safer" BMW 335i or the like.

Judging by how much trouble I got in with a 02 V6 Mustang with all of 193 ponies, I can't imagine what's going to happen here........ oh, wait, yeah I can....

It all depends on the kid.

It generally is not a good idea.

I had a 10 second stang shortly after I turned 16. Right at 19 I bought a GSXR1000. Luckily I was able to live to have the stories.

One thing is for sure. The Ford vs Chevy debate is decided at his school already.

She did put it into the wall once at the track (and she fixed it) and at 16 crashed her dragster at 173mph (won the round but crashed) when she hit fluid after the stripe but never had an issue on the street. At 25 she is one of the better known female drag racers in the Eastern US.

It is all in the kid and how they are raised....for every story like ours we see dozens of irresponsible idiots getting killed.
I understand where you're coming from and I'm only 21, so it wasn't long ago I was driving around in much quicker cars than kids my age, but there's a big difference between an 11 second vette and a 9 second chariot of zeus. Would you have given your daughter that vette to drive if it had 1000hp and ran 140+ traps on street tires? It is just way too dangerous for ANY teenager on the street. If he goes anywhere near WOT on the street it's going to break loose at almost any speed. This is almost guaranteed to be the fastest car he ever comes across on the street. It's just stupid.

Darwinism at work, hopefully collateral damage will be kept to a minimum.

A 9 second car is just way too fast for any high school kid, especially when its being built by his Dad. That is one idiot father.
