What is the part number for the Performance Copper Free Brake pads for the ZL1?

I have no idea, just saying I was told a similar line about them being the Cadillac CT5-V blackwing standard brakes (which are copper free). I looked for replacement parts for it to see if I could find the part number, but I had no luck. after seeing this thread it feels like its a $500 roll of the dice... could be better / could be worse. Im hoping they aren't worse, but the more I think about it, everything mandatory for Cali is rarely a performance improvement...

I do wonder if it's the same pad compound that was tested and validated for the CT5V Blackwing. If so, this could be an excellent proposition for us.

So digging up this older thread because I'm looking at a ZL1 from out of state and when I asked the dealer if the car was California smog compliant he got confused and thought I was talking about the brake pads. I immediately told him no they fixed that, forgetting I was speaking to an out of state dealer. When I hung up thought to myself, shit! He's right.

So question, I read the faqs on the pdf that was posted and it wasn't immediately clear to me if it was just a different brake pad. The article mentioned it included different rotors and caliper size but others have mentioned it may be for the lower models. I do all my own brake maintenance and would be fine ordering direct from that dealer or using a different address to order parts but seems like a hassle in the future and or issues if I need warranty work to the system.

Thoughts? The price is much better than I'm getting here but I don't want to deal with a ton of bs since it would not be a copper free system on the RPO.

That's what my thought was too after looking at the fleet info. Well see if the dealer even wants to deal now that he was sort of made aware.

Bunch of bs if you asked me, can't stand this states politics.

Rotors are different:

copper free brakes rotors: GM Genuine Parts Front Disc Brake Rotor #85137534
Outside Diameter 15.67 in / 397.99 mm

Regular ZL1 brake rotors: GM Genuine Parts Front Disc Brake Rotor #84271643 (177-1247)
Outside Diameter 15.36 in / 390.2 mm

Also, calipers are slightly different as well, RUQWIKR noted this in the Apex wheel thread:

Once again, this was a 18x11+7 SM-10, and not one of the new forged versions. However, Apex says the clearance should be the same.

The BCD / J6H front caliper is about 6mm longer up down in car position and about 3mm closer to the barrel also above the cross-bolt. I let Cory at Apex know. I have multiple sets of Apex wheels in 18", so, this is for FYI, not as a negative on Apex.

The dealer assured me they would send me parts if needed which eased some concerns. Only thing bothers me is if for some unforseen reason the brake system would require warranty work, I'd need to head to Nevada.

That’s an understatement… regulations coming out of California are voted on by crazy people. Sadly their economy is so huge that a lot of the country has to listen to them.

There have already been cars delivered with the option. It's the Blackwing front rotor. 398mm.

So I've read that all copper pads are supposed to be reduced down to .5 vs 5% by 2025. Seeing as how copper free setups were sized up to compensate, do you feel the performance would be dramatically hindered if you have the o.g. setup vs the larger copper free?

I'm only familiar with Wilwood who allow me to select different compounds to suit my needs; does Brembo offer different compounds for ZL1s?

I do wonder if the ZL1 'Copper Free' brake pad compound in the same as the CT5V Blackwing.

If GM went into all that effort for brake development (800 hard laps at VIR)..as it had to be copper free....I'd like to think the ZL1 Performance Copper free pads are the same.

Same factory for both cars and all....
