Continuing the discussion, there is a neat trick to the ACDelcoTDS website. You get more than three days with a 3 day subscription... as long as you stay in the manual (the second window you get after you sign in) and don't close your browser or shut down the computer. For some reason, once you have the token to access the service manual for that vehicle, it won't prevent you from accessing days or weeks after the 3 days are up. You can't change vehicles after the 3 days, but you can keep accessing.
I've purchased three separate 3-day subscriptions at this point, snagging what I need when I need it (most recently being theft deterrent systems and schematics).

Thanks for that one. On day 4 now. It also seems to work if you sleep your PC. That's what I've done for the last 4 days instead of leaving it running on.

How many pages are we talking for the complete service manual?

Don't know for sure, but probably a couple 1000 if you were get them all...lol. I just got a fraction of what I though I might need one day for just my model and options. The path you can drill down into are a bit overwhelming. Here is screen show of just 1 path and the individual docs it leads to.
Aside from the "Service Manual" , there is also a section for GM "accessories" instructions with it's own links to drill into (like GM's lowering Suspension pkgs, splitters, etx, etc) . Definitely need to have an indexing plan in mind. I just copied the title at the top of each document page (a few pages had slashes or colons that need to be removed) prefixed with the link names used to get to the doc (BodyRepair-Instructions-yadayada.pdf). I used notepad to type the current path name, and then copy/pasted the yadayada part for each file, right click print to pds, paste that file name, rinse repreat. I'll organize them at my leisure late. |

The average lenght of the the current vehicles service manuals from the time that obd 2 was brought in is 7 thousand pages with some vehicles now over 10k or 7 or 8 books. The price of these on Helm has gone up considerably if you wanted a paper copy and you get a break if you order the thumbdrive version. The Camaro being a unique vehicle and is not bundled with other vehicles should be no more that 8 thousand pages long. My Wifes Terrain Thumbdrive if i was to print it out would top out at 11,000 pages! My Suburban Thumbdrive is a more Reasonable 9900 pages lol. The advantage the thumbdrive has over the paper is its hyperlinked which will jump to the section that you need when in a job. I have looked for my 2023 on Helm but i dont think it will be there as GM wants you to use their system. I will just have be content with Alldata for now.

My 2018 manual is 10,000 pages.

Unfortunately, the official service manual comes on a copy protected USB stick that autoruns the decryption software when you plug it in(to a Windows machine), so it can't be used on Linux, or a phone, or even removed from the port during use. Another example of screwing paying customers over, while pirated copies downloaded from wrz sites have no limitations.

I've been using the website called "alldatadiy.com"
https://www.alldata.com/diy-us/en and it's been very helpful. I just checked and alldatadiy currently offers up to the 2022 model year Camaro service information. Pricing is pretty fair too. 1 month subscription: $20 1 year subscription: $60 3 year subscription: $130. You can also print to pdf on this site as well and save the information for future reference.

The last year for Alldata is the 2022 which is what you mentioned in the above post. It usually takes two years for Alldata to catch up to the prior year. Helm is really hit and miss, as i remember somebody on one of the Corvette Forums mentioned that GM limits the amount of Thumbdrives and for the Paper manual its only printed when they have enough demand and then its limited. When getting the thumb drive, it was mentioned previously that the encryption does not let it work on other systems and that is true, it will also struggle with newer versions of Adobe pdf reader, in fact i had to install version 9 to get it to read the thumbdrives, it kept telling me the data was corrupted. One last thing about the thumbdrives, they are not cheap, it cost me 450 cdn for my Suburban and 410 for my wifes Terrain. I still had to pay a courier to ship them at 50 dollars cdn.

You could probably get it all using a web scraper, like OctoParse. Just point it at the URL you want it to start at and it will traverse all the links, downloading everything. |
