Right. 35+ years of joint decisions here, since all $$ is mutual and all comes from the same account. The combining of all funds is part of what formed the team.

To the OP though, congrats!

I agree with the great ride comments. My wife and I combine all funds and all decisions are joint. This thread is like the Lexus commercials at Christmas. I would walk out, see a pretty car with a big red bow on it, and immediately think how the hell are we going to pay for this!

It would seem that a few people missed the tag line "best wife ever". You are assuming our financial situation, her ability to know our financial situation, and whether or not we had discussed buying something in the past. I was taught to have a joint account for for daily expenses and individual accounts for discretionary purchases, which this fell under.

I was only expressing that this would not work in our model, but by no means was judging yours. Again, congrats on a great ride, and a plan that obviously works for your wife and you.

Yep - just like the other guy- I even said that your fiscal situation was likely different than ours...not knocking you...just sayin....

I certainly hope to be in a position where a new car falls under discretionary spending someday. Unfortunately, I doubt I'll ever get there, short of winning the lottery....
