That is what I was expecting, a wheel so clean that it looked like it just rolled off the factory floor. I didn't really scrutinize the wheels closely as I was more focused on the paint which did look great.

I did swipe my finger tip on the inside of the rear wheel in a 1/2" swipe and there was some black soot on my finger tip. It did not look appreciably different then when I dropped the car off. He did take the wheels off so I'm dumbfounded that they wouldn't have at least de-ironed and de-tarred it and cleaned the dirt.

I will probably chat with the owner but lord knows if he will give me a refund. I'm not likely to really go after him unless he's a prick. Lesson learned on this shop I suppose.

The owner said he saw the tech working the wheels and has 2 hours of video of the tech removing the wheels and cleaning them at the wash rack. He offered to send me the video if I still had questions.

He speculated that there is enough rust and brake dust in the Brembos that just moving the car around the shop a few times may have coated the rims with a light dust.

He was very reasonable and I'm good with his explanation.

Thanks guys for your perspectives!

I advised him to do a beading test and he already (successfully) did, the wheels were definitely coated.

It's super unlikely that the shop would've coated the wheels dirty, so I think it's just good ole' quickly accumulating brake dust from our beloved Ferodo HP1000s, and OP is good.

I wouldnt say that, plenty of things out there like Gyeon wet coat, DIY quick beads, carpro Hydro2 that you just spray on and wash off and gives you nice protection and beading like a coating but will only last a month or two.

What can I say, I want to be optimistic and not assume that the detailer would have flat out lied to OP and used some spray coating to fool him.

OP's last response indicates anyway that the detailer was willing to send a video to prove the installation, so that's another reason I concluded he's fine, unless of course additional information to the contrary comes up later. (Why have I started sounding like a lawyer, sheesh...)

Agree with all of the above; yes they certainly could have lied but it seems highly unlikely given their extremely good ratings over many years and the owners willingness to share the recording.

I'm glad I asked the question, but at this point i'm fully satisfied that they did what they said. Now I can just enjoy the gleam of this beautiful vehicle.
