I have the nav option on my Z. I never use it. The UI sucks. It's a PITA to navigate menus and enter addresses and it's hard to read the map real time to figure out where you are and where you're going. The voice recognition is garbage compared to Google maps and Waze. Can't figure out basic things. The speed limit on the center dash display between the gauges is maybe the ONLY thing that has anything close to any utility. But when you can get Waze on the 8" console display and it also includes the speed limit (which is always updated) it blows away the base nav. Trust me when I tell you that there is ZERO practical value to spending extra money for Chevy's OEM Nav wherever you have mobile data available to run Carplay or Android Auto. And on the gulf coast of Florida, there are not many places that don't have a data signal. You want it because FOMO. But trust me, you're not missing out on anything other than not wasting a wad of cash. |

Yet another navigation thread...
...joining the ranks of catch can, oil change/weight and M6/A8/A10 trans discussions.
Some people like cheap (free) phone software and don't mind even if they have to hook up a wired USB connection. Others prefer integration with the gauge cluster and the HUD as well as the favorites system on the car. Yet others want the best of both worlds and use wireless AA/CarPlay when it makes sense and the built-in nav when it is required. And there are some who don't mind paying $99 a year for up to date maps, while the same can be crass abomination to others who then don't mind sharing their whole life with Google and Apple and others. Neither us nor our priorities are the same... and that's a good thing.

I notice that a lot of the people who have issues with nav also have slightly newer ZL1s. It might be possible that GM put in really good systems in the early cars and then realized it was too good and that nobody was gonna upgrade them so they watered it down in subsequent years. Just guessing out of nowhere. LOL. Because literally, none of the issues I'm reading about are present on my 17. It is spot on, easy to use, easy to follow, and it always sends me on the best route.
With that said I do like having Nav as opposed to using Android auto. I really don't like having wires going everywhere. But I do use it in my Ram 1500 and it is pretty decent. Sometimes it sends me thru local neighborhoods instead of putting me on the highway or freeway. But whatever you have and use I guess it is way better than printing out MapQuest directions like was the standard 15 years ago. Nothing beats peace of mind. If OP prefers to have it and if the cost to get it upgrade is worth it to him then go for it. I mean, some people spend $5,000 on rims and thousands of dollars on paint correction and wraps and such. And that's cool too. Whatever makes you enjoy your car more. Hopefully GM won't charge an arm and a leg to upgrade. |

Speaking of upgrades. I don't understand why these vehicle manufacturers don't make certain things plug and play and then charge for it. Like if someone bought a base model and then wanted heated/vented seats...that should be a plug and play option that can be bought and installed at a dealership. Or upgraded head units and displays and gauges. You would think by now given how many people customize their vehicles that they would have tons of plug and play options.

navigation is in the HMI module.
not all modules support Nav because modules in non nav cars do not have the connector for the gps antenna. to add nav to a non nav car you need to get a new (or used) hmi that has the connector, a gps antenna and have it programmed for your car. there are a couple places that do this, like wams and others.

So... What is the difference between two aside navigation? I don't care about navigation but I care about sound. Is "Premium" better sounding than "Plus"? Those are the options for 2SS and ZL1 (or others maybe).

Not sure why anyone in this day and age would want factory Nav. It becomes outdated in a couple of years, unless you buy the updates. Now that the car has wireless Apple Car Play, you don't even need to connect your phone "wire" to the car to use any and all apps on your phone. Don't waste the $ on the upgraded infotainment system.

There is no "premium" sound. The only difference between the two systems is the Navigation.
