Same boat. Might have to shove a hog ass cam in there. If you're voiding warranty, might as well.

That's just about what I was quoted for the same mods. About the cats, you could always gut them if you really wanted to. That's what I did on my 4thgen. All set for visual while giving the finger to the Karens. Hi Karen 🤡

I thought about going catless with headers, but quickly got over the idea. The thought of an obnoxiously loud car that reeks of gasoline all the time was not too appealing. Then you spend all that money, lose your warranty, and have only meager gains to show for it. I went with a Borla Atak axle-back and do not regret it for a second. But then again, I'm not in my 20's or 30's anymore, lol.

Seriously. It is the thing I hate the most about this platform. I love when people say “just throw a cam in it with non dod lifters to make the car more reliable “. Well making the car more “reliable” (sorry but no cammed car will be more reliable than factory as you have to maintain the valve train) will cost at least 12k to do it the right way (headers, intake, head work, so it can breath and exhale better to match the cam).

I wasn’t into 5th gens but I remember reading heads cam packages cost way less on them.

Everything else came out to another $3200 bringing the total for the work and tax to $5900. The same shop quoted me $12100 for a 600HP package that includes engine removal, cams, heads, headers and tuning.

Is $6000 fair for headers, flex fuel and tune and parts/supplies? I have the quote below.

2260H430 1.00 2761.00 KOOKS 1 7/8 HEADERS WITH GREEN CATS 2016-UP CAMARO
33829 1.00 137.99 MSD WIRESET LT1 14+
4344 8.00 109.20 NGK IRIDIUM SPARK PLUG
12657093 2.00 34.04 GM LT1 EXHAUST GASKET 2014+
DSXFLEX 1.00 375.00 DSX FLEX FUEL KIT- '16+ CAMARO SS
LABOR 4.50 607.50 Install Headers and connections
LABOR 2.00 270.00 Install Flex Fuel kit
LABOR 1.00 850.00 Dyno tune (E85)
6452 2.00 184.00 VP C-85 5 GALLON
1.00 266.00 Supplies

5972.84 Total with tax
Kooks headers are great headers are great, and that is a huge cost. If I could find something for half that cost and get them ceramic coated, I would maybe be happier. What is the difference between the green cats and high flow cats? Are the green cats just what Kooks calls the high flow cats? I could knock off another $270 and install flex fuel myself but I think they have a 12000 mile 1 year warranty if they install everything. What are the thoughts here? TIA.
I just went FBO on my 21 SS.
You can def install the E85 kit yourself within like 30 mins, Lethal Garage kit is like 275$ if I recall right
Kooks headers came with exhaust gaskets, I'm not sure why they wanna use the OEM ones. I don't think they are necessary
I didn't change out my spark plugs, I think OEM ones are fine for low milage. that's also something you can change out yourself once problems come up
not sure what kind of supplies they need? for 266$?
Get hardness heat sleeves for the passenger side just in case the LTH might burn them.
IF THEY ARE INSTALLING YOUR HEADERS, MAKE SURE TELL THEM TO SAVE YOUR OEM PARTS, CATS! you can resell the cats for like 250$ min
last thing for the tune.. I would rec you to get your own HPTUNER, u can have your own cable(credits) for future retune with anybody else without paying another $200 for credits again..
might also worth getting a LT2 IM... you can get a used&modified one for like 200-300$(ported)
these are just my personal opinions and enjoy the car!

I like the stock multi-layer steel exhaust gaskets. Last time I bought headers from kooks, their gasket was a solid piece of aluminum. Both will work, but everyone has their favorites.

i think there is a fair amount of power to be had without touching any part of the exhaust. intake manifold (LT2), cut stock air box and a flex fuel tune would make a very noticeable gain.

if i had it to do over id leave the factory manifolds on it until i swapped cams. just regarding sound, imho once they are catless, these cars do not sound good no matter what exhaust is used.

regarding price: i guess it's time for you people to decide if you want to learn how to work on your own stuff. its really not terribly difficult and will easily save you thousands of dollars with this vehicle alone.
