Any car should be able to idle for at least an hour…with no overheat. Sometimes people get in situations where its necessary.

Many winter time situations where I've had to idle for long periods.

I've read that since people would park the car in a garage and walk away with the key, cars would run and people would die because of carbon monoxide. I bet this is a safety feature. Its the same way how the Car wont remote start from the remote unless its within a certain range.

As far as I know the engine should run until you run out of gas, even without the smart key. For example, start your car and leave your key behind, you should be able to drive and drive. However, if you shut off the engine you will obviously need the smart key to start it again. It would be a safety Issue if your engine would shut off due to a proximity or smart key failure.
As for a max idle timer, never heard of that except as a safety feature with the remote start systems.

Funny story, It was raining hard and I parked my car in my parking spot. I had turned off the radio (which I normally do not do) and got out of the car, then hit the lock button as I was running inside. Out of habit, I always look to see the parking lights flash when locking. There was no flash but I heard the door lock. I tried it a few times and same thing, could hear the door lock, but no flash. I thought it was strange and that I would investigate after the rain stopped. About 10 mins later I went to the window and looked out to the car and tried it again. No flash. About 10 mins more the rain stopped and I went out to the car and I thought, do I hear that my car is running? I could barely hear it because the engine is very quiet at idle and yes I had left the car running when I got out. Normally I'm used to hearing the radio turn off when I open the door after shutting of the car. I guess with it raining so hard, I did not hear or feel the engine was still on. Well now I do pay that extra bit of attention. I guess I was just getting to used to having the radio shut off as I open the door to confirm the car is off. One of the things that you do out of habit but do not think about. At least the lack of a flash caught my eye or I could have left the car running for who knows how long.

Once started, I can tell you from personal experience, they key is no longer an issue. I was miles away and didn't even realize I had no key on me because the car was already running when I got in and I didn't shut it off again til I got back home, which is where my key was.

Oil life does not equal oil level. Oil life is the calculated percentage( using fancy math) that GM predicts of how much longer will the oil be useful before needing to be changed.
You still have to physically open the hood and check the dipstick for oil level. |

ME too
My car does the same thing. I got out of the car, locked the door and went into my brothers store. About 30 minutes later the engine shuts off. That was the first occurrence. This past Saturday I did the same thing but this time when i went back to the car to let my uncle gawk over the car it shut off after I unlocked the door opened it and shut it. I'm thinking it's some safety feature. My 2016 F-150 does something similar when I leave it in Acc mode. It shuts everything off to preserve the battery. I'm hoping this is the case with my Maro
