lo, thanks man. All done apiece at a time. Close to $20k invested into the audio at this point due to revisions, and another $10K in performance upgrades
Most of that is labor costs and multiple changes. But, I like where the car is at right now.

Hi, so sorry, I’ve been terrible on following up with pics on my build. I will just offer for a pic from the installer showing off their install on their web site. Damn, those carbon fiber cones look great, too bad you can’t see them through the stock grills.

Pic with top down - sorry it's dark, in apartment garage - about 2-3 inches of vertical clearance from top of sub cabinet to convertible top glass.

Here's some annotated pics as someone asked how they are oriented.

Hi all! I owed you an update on my stereo install.
* It broke! * Is was getting heavy "digital clipping" type distortion on my music/podcasts from my iPhone thru the upgraded Camaro stereo. * I somehow convinced myself for about 3-6 months that it was due to an iOS issue - so I kept messing around with my iPhone software and configuration. I always participate in the Apple Beta Program for my iPhone and iPad, so I thought it might have something to do with that. I checked a lot of forums and did a lot of debugging. I think I even fully reloaded the iPhone from scratch, and/or I upgraded to a new iPhone 15 to try to resolve the issue. * Nothing worked. * I brought it into my local Portland car stereo store (AutoPrada - Mobile West) for debugging/repair. * The two root causes indentified: 1) the digital/optical cable needed to be replaced, 2) I had at least 1 or 2 blown speakers. * I had them replace the Morel Virtus Carbon Nano 62 speakers with Morel Hybrid 62 - both are 2-way speakers. * I only kept the front tweeters, front woofers, center speaker, and sub, and had them remove the rear seat speakers. * I had them remove the passive crossovers from the front tweeters and use the digital processor for all crossover/filtering functions exclusively. (This is supposedly a 15% power efficiency increase over passive crossovers - but takes dedicated processor/amp channels - I freed up channels by eliminating the rear speakers.) * It's fixed! I think the Hybrids are more robust and can handle more power than the Carbon Nanos which are cool in concept - carbon fiber speaker materials, ultra thin form factors - but a bit fragile. The front bass output is significantly improved. The tweeters have the same smoth, silky Morel character to them. Having just front speakers and the sub in the trunk is a fine solution - there is really no pressing need for rear speakers in a small vehicle like the Camaro. I think your money is better invested in the highest quality front speakers within your budget and a nice sub in the trunk. * Follow Up Problem: I had the AutoPrada tuner shape the frequency curve in 2 separate sessions for me. However, it is still off - I have the Camaro tones at Bass: -1, Mid: +12, Treble: -6 - and it still only sounds about 75% right. * Solution: I gave up on AutoPrada's tuner - and conicientally, I just sold my Camaro and bought another car. I hope this thread can provide some assistance to anyone in their future Camaro stereo mod journey. Best of luck to all! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_210HYB...Hybrid-62.html Last edited by Plasar; 05-12-2024 at 08:49 PM. |
