The Tremec fluid is much closer in cSt spec to the OEM fluid than many of the aftermarket Dexron 3 type fluids. It's seemed great in my car the past year or two, so I'm leaning towards running that again.

GM put out a bulletin back in like 2007 that said that GM 88861800 replaced Dexoron III as the fill. There are better full synthetic alternatives that meet the spec such as Redline D4 or Amsoil. In the MSDS for this fluid, it lists the 100C viscosity at around 7.5 cST. Redline considers this 70w80 for gear oil https://www.redlineoil.com/d4-atf. I've had great results with Redline oils for MTs and rear LSD.

Interesting thread. I've been using Amsoil Torque-Drive Synthetic ATF.
Kinematic Viscocity @ 100 C = 7.6 Kinematic Viscocity @ 40 C = 37.1

The Dexron III and other aftermarket ATF specs are the outliers here. |

The TREMEC fluid is the outlier. The OEM fluid is DEXRON III. Dex3 is no longer licensed, so they changed to that other part #. I'm not saying the TREMEC fluid wont work perfectly, but based on the viscosity sounds like they are specing GL4 75W90.
This is the MSDS for the factory ACDELCO 10-4033 fluid mentioned earlier in this thread. The viscosity is right in line with DEXRON III @ 7.7 cst. Per another oil site ( google this part number and VOA (virgin oil analysis)), there is nothing special about the factory fluid. Since GM is providing the warranty and not TREMEC, if it were me I'd use something meeting Dex III. I've had great results and customer service from Redline, so I will use them for the trans and diff.

I have a little leftover 88861800 from my last change and will send it in for oil analysis to try and put this to bed. It could be it is still a Dexron III spec and the gmparts.com (AC Delco) link has the wrong info as a 75w-90. Since it is still an ATF red tint, I am thinking the gmparts.com info is wrong and its a Dexron III compatible oil.

I dont think that MSDS is for the right part number. Nowhere on that sheet does it say any of the correct part numbers. Can you share where you found that? It looks like my previous screenshot was from a 2006 MSDS, below is the newest one I could find.
ACDELCO GM ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT 75W-90 MANUAL TRANSMISSION AND TRANSFER CASE FLUID - 1 QT GM Part # 88861800 ACDelco Part # 10-4033 https://www.brandenburg.com/IphonePD...on%20fluid.pdf Right at the top in small writing it says the correct part number. I have read elsewhere this is made by Petro canada as well. Viscosity Viscosity, kinematic : 34.26 cSt (40 °C / 104 °F) 7.7 cSt (100 °C / 212 °F) More reading material: https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/th...3/post-5549117 https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/th...861800.250384/ If you go to GM's part catalog, there is alot of "manual transmission fluid." I would only use the part number spec'd for this TREMEC unit if you're going with OEM fluid. In my case, I will use Redline D4 and its a valid replacement for GM part #88861800. Viscosity is around 7.5cst but full synthetic.

This is where I looked mine up, by searching "transmission", and selecting what seemed to be titled the closest. None of the documents contain the proper part numbers, and nothing populates searching them: https://www.gmparts.com/technical-re...nt-disclosures |

The search function on GM's part website seems broken, I just went to the fluids by category. A regular 75w90 gl-4 might work fine given the official TREMEC fluid has a different viscosity, but I'd just use DexIII equivalent or even OEM since GM is the one on the hook for the warranty. I got a while yet before I do the change but this is one fluid you dont want to screw up.

Personal experience with both redline and tremec manual trans fluids, is that redline d4 is good for cold weather, tremec not as good in cold, but smooth when is warm after driving for 20+ minutes or any day weather is above 60 F.
Redline d4 wasn't impressive on track during warm weather, i have yet to try tremec on the track in warm weather.

The Redline D4 on track in warm weather felt very notchy when shifting quick at even high rpms especially in third gear when it was warm after a few laps on a track cross. I figured the reason being that because Redline it is a thinner oil, is good on cold, and the oem m6 trans fluid is a little better during warm season.
