I’m gonna give the range a try just for the heck of it and see how I like that. At least while I’m still under warranty. Then maybe tune it out later on if the range isn’t sufficient. Heard good things about the new range devices.

We’ve come a long way with cylinder deactivation. Talk to your Dads and Grandfathers about the infamous V8-6-4 Cadillac 368..... people were tearing the computers out of those about the third day of ownership lol

Yea I would hope technology improved since those things lol! Would be nice if they just left it alone and if you want economy and 4cyl etc.. Just buy that. Leave it off the performance/sports cars. Unless You special ordered It right out the gate. My most modern car up till now was 2007 charger which didn’t have any of that stuff so I’m sure it’s just gonna take a minute to get more used to it. Lol.

Some of us don't care, but manufacturers have to when they have to meet fleet emission goals, unfortunately. 0.1 MPG doesn't seem like much but when you make tens of thousands of cars along with millions of trucks, it becomes significant.

I mean, it's either the AFM on the A8/A10 or the 1 to 4 skip shift on the M6. Pick your poison. At least the 1 to 4 skip shift is easier to get rid of.

It is invisible in our 2.0T L4 and 3.6L V6.

I remember the first car I drove with AFM was a CTF Pontiac G8. Drove it to Florida. Going up the gradual hills with the AFM kicked in it was nearly non-commercial. It shook worse than any Gen5 Camaro ever did.

At one point the Gen5 had 5 flex couplings in the exhaust to try and quiet it down.

The FST and SUVs are helped by being BOF construction. Another level of isolation.

Huh? How much easier can it get than plugging a Range device into the OBD port?

Does 2.0T have AFM? I thought Mazda is the only one doing cylinder deactivation on a 4-cylinder.

I just looked it up. Yeah, it's easy to install but at the same time, it costs close to US$200. A skip-shift disabler costs like US$20~30. It's more work, but if you are doing an oil change, you could just install the skip-shift bypass while you are under the car.

I’ll be installing mine this weekend. Thought I would either not hit it very much or “get used” to it like some members of this forum said I would.

Neither has happened since I bought my car in Feb. When you’ve been driving literally nothing but stick for 25 years you ain’t changing how you shift.

It costs <$16, plug and play and won't get you failed at inspection time if you forget to remove it, even then it will likely fail emissions until you drive it a bit without it. It's also not a warranty concern as no one would ever notice or care.

I would say that it's a bit more intrusive than the C7 M7 I had, but at the same time, I am mostly okay with it. Also, I am kinda lazy.

Forget to remove? The device has a blue LED on it (I taped over mine) and you have to reach behind it to access the hood release.

It does nothing to modify emissions and my OBD scanner shows all parameters "ready to test". Where are you obtaining your information?

My 2019 Silverado LD (4 X 4) I just bought brand new has the 5.3 with AFM. I don't feel anything at all- smooth as ever and it must be working as I average 22-23 MPG. I have owned many trucks- including 4 cylinders, 6 cylinders and one diesel. This Silverado gets the best MPG of them all.
