Well I'm gonna go out on a limb here and assume there really isn't anyone trailering their track gear with a ZL1 1LE. I just might have to be the guinea pig! LOL!
The whole point of the exercise is to get away from hauling my car to the track in my trailer. My Mazda is quite content in there and besides I can't imagine trying to crawl in or out of the Camaro inside the trailer. I'm getting too old for that!

I'm ALMOST there guys lol I have yet to put the car ON The trailer.. I did buy some 7"x74" RaceRamps. It has a winch so I wont have to worry about a Dukes of Hazzard ingress/egress.

Ouch... I have to believe a small trailer would put less stress on the back of the car than that cantalevered hitch mount solution. Granted, it does look cool.

I understand it's cheaper to not buy a trailer and tow vehicle, but when you put the car off into a wall or have a engine or suspension issue it will be a long walk home.

I also want to be able to use up all my tire, and not leave a 300 mile trip home to chance.

Yup, the tire usage/gamble. That's my biggest reason for wanting a tire trailer. My last set of tires were thrown away with potentially a whole track day left on them, or a full summers worth of daily driving, but I couldn't risk cording them before the long drive home. Now I have track wheels, and am planning to do the one in the trunk, three in the seats routine. Maybe not right away, but for sure when the tread gets low.

I know the topic has mainly been towards a tire trailer pulled by your vehicle, but, you can get open and enclosed trailers made with axle angles that give you more clearance over the trailer tires / tire box. That, combined with an "escape" door on the left side of the trailer over the tires helps. Some escape doors also combine with inner fenders that can be removed creating even more clearance. Not my trailer pictured for this - from a quick web search. It happens to be an ATC trailer - great product as mine is from them, too.
I have only towed my 1LE once and drove it in and out as I'm able to open my driver's door but do have a remote controlled winch if needed. I have an escape door but fixed tire box, but, custom axles raising the load floor. Combined with extended ramps, it doesn't scrape loading / unloading and keeps the trailer rear from dragging on ingress / egress to steep grades. I custom ordered it back over 10 years ago for my street / strip drag race car that had a long nose and was low (01 Firebird). Last edited by RUQWIKR; 07-13-2018 at 03:01 PM. |

The peace of mind towing your car to the track is worth it, not haveung to worry about flats or if the unfortunate happens you wreck or blow something up you can still get it home. Plus I put fixed back seats in it so long trips are kind of uncomfortable.
