Don't know that I agree with the leather conditioner. All my vehicles have leather. My wife's impala is a 2015. We bought it new. I've never once put conditioner on the leather. The seats look brand new still. (Almost 10 years old now). Camaro is a 2016, seats look new. Tahoe is a 2018, seats look new. None have ever been conditioned. To each their own.

your entry and exit is why they look new. You are careful and mindful. Those that are not need to condition them to keep them pliable or they will crack.

This is exactly what I mentioned to the OP in my first response. I think this along with body weight, do you run hot (i.e. sweat a lot) all have to do with how the seats respond. I don't think it has to do with you conditioning them. My brother-in-law conditions the leather in his vehicles and his seats look like crap. His seats are the reason I've chosen not to use conditioner. Just my $.02

This is what I remember from watching one of the auto detail Youtube channels I subscribe to from a while back: Yes I believe leather seats today have a coating on them already. There were leather seats from years ago, mostly England, that were pure leather. They would get a natural age effect over time.

This is my personal experience: I use Meguiars All Purpose cleaner on both cloth or leather. Conditioner makes them a little slicker, and it smells good, might offer little more protection. But I think using a good cleaner is more important than conditioner. So you can get rid of abrasive dirt and acidic sweat/body oil/food stains, etc.

I like leather but I have alcantara in my ZL1 and I’m satisfied with it.

Has anyone had their cloth seat cushion covers wear out & replaced them - if so, how old were the covers before they needed replacing?

How is this even a question? Leather is significantly more durable than cloth.

Well having run the tests many many times, your seats shouldn’t be wearing in 5 years unless you are doing something out of he ordinary. So how you get in, your anthropometrics, what is in your pockets? Heavy work fabric in your pants? Or just your use case. Are you getting in and out of the car more frequently? Are your pants damp or wet often? The test uses denim covers and standard seat material.

Now if the seats were Alcantara like some BMWs were they would tell you that the seats would need replacing as a service item, lol.

But seats get 2 major tests, entry egress and jounce and squirm (bouncing Betty we affectionately called the test device). The issue we sometimes found was failed springs or bolsters.

But 5 years is too soon. Pics?

I sat in both the cloth and leather seats, for comparison (non-recaro/microfiber suede/ZL1 and non-SS) and they are upholstered the same way, meaning that they have the same padding and construction

100k miles on mine. The SS emblem fell off at about 70k and I hadnt bothered to replace it, otherwise the seats still look brand new. I do use leather conditioner here and there but I haven't had problems with the leather material itself.

I think milage over year is a better way to judge wear and tear, even then multiple short drives at the same milage can cause more wear on the edges/seams.

I had a DD 10 with leather seats and mainly used it in the winter while the bike was in storage, about 70k miles and 11 years I noticed the edges of the drivers side started to crack, by 80k 13 years I was thinking about having them redone but then I lost the car.

Hope my 23's do just as good

I always put a genuine sheepskin cover on my drivers side over the leather because I prefer the way it feels to anything else. It’s cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
