The lights are on in the above SEMA pic. Supposedly the red is a lot darker when the lights are off. We'll see though like you said. I think I remember a post where someone asked someone at GM but I'm not going to search around for it.

However dark they are, I think they are very sharp looking.
I'm grabbing a pair when available. Now for cost..... Like $500 plus labor cost? Not sure though...........

In fact... It does not matter how dark the tail light is.. That's not illegal..as long as it does not obscure the red light when lit. Such as braking, turning and running light. what is illegal, is tinting the tail light with paint or film. check you're state code.

Probably having to get DOT approved in all states before they can sell them which I guess they could still be waiting on.

The OP pic is correct! That's how they will look until you either turn on the lights, brake or use the turn signal. Amazing what you can do with LED lights these days.
