Applaud Ford for the Dark Horse. Really interesting car and awesome for street use.
But for the few people that actually track their cars with any consistency..the TR3160 and the fact its 200 lbs heavier than the ZL1 1LE makes it DOA for track use IMO. Ever since a friend with a GT350 broke everything on the track (even the alternator) I have been second guessing Ford's sincerity. The TR3160 was limited to V6 engines by GM and at 4k lbs the Dark Horse won't be competitive with 500hp these days. By a used 1LE and spend 30K on it.

Just about time to see if the GTD can actually run around the Nordschleife in the same league as the 993 GT3RS or AMG GT Black it was allegedly aiming for.
2025 FORD MUSTANG GTD STARTS TESTING AT FAMOUS TRACK: VIDEO https://fordauthority.com/2024/06/2025-ford-mustang-gtd-starts-testing-at-famous-track-video/ The 2025 Ford Mustang GTD is a lean, mean, high-winged machine that’s as track-ready as a street-legal pony car can get. It was expected to hit the pavement and start turning laps at the Nürburgring this summer, but the high-performance pony car has already been spotted pacing the famous racetrack.

Considering the GT500 already does I don’t see how there’s anyway the GTD won’t. The spec sheet is unreal on this car. Ford gave it an actual transaxle. I was stunned they made that type of investment for a very low production Mustang but I guess when you charge 300k for it you’ll recoup the costs.

I'm sorry, I love my Camaro, I love all Camaros, but... The GTD is just one of the coolest cars (IMO). Even if it doesn't beat the Porsche GT3 on the Nurburgring, to me it's still cooler than a Porsche GT3. If it beats the Porsche GT3 it will be even better though (just to puncture some of the euro-snobs that call themselves car enthusiasts).
I love these kinds of skunksworks-ish cars that are outside the realm of what the respective companies normally build like the GR Yaris, VW Phaeton, Renault Clio (mid-engined), Lexus LFA, Acura NSX, and Dodge Viper. Give us more please! Quote:

Of course, the GTD is very likely to be faster than the ZL1 1LE (heck, even a Corvette Z06 was), all I'm saying is let's see if it does live up to the expectations.

Buying an 810hp S650 Mustang for $49,995 is pretty damn tempting. I know its a base model but still. Someone please explain to me how the hell they are getting that much power out of that engine and if I slap a Magnuson 2650 or Whipple on my SS 1LE I will barely get like 100-120 rwhp? Man that's crazy.

Same. I’m confident in the gen iv coyote. It’s not that different versus the Gen 3 and the Gen 3 has been very stout. I would just consider doing the oil pump gears in one if you do end up in one or just don’t bang off the rev limiter as that’s the main issue with them.

The trans is the weak link. All of the local Coyote guys I know with 700+ whp have broken their trans., and this is more than 5 people (not 1 or 2). Piston ring gap is also an issue on long sustained pulls, as well as the oil pump gears as previously mentioned.
