If Subaru wants to price a car at 64k then it seems fair. Plus I'm sure they had both in the test stable and said "What the hell why not?" |

I just saw a video of a stock GT500 up against an 18 M6 trans ZL1. The ZL1 had a Kong ported stock blower, intake, headers, and layed down 651whp on 93 octane. The ZL1 walked away pretty easily. This looked to be on a private road course but I am not sure what they got up to.

I got ripped on for taking my Hellcat to the strip without drag radials. Some people might not want DRs, cant afford another set of wheels/DRs, or many other reasons for just not having them; but when it comes down to it anyone who is serious about drag racing any of these cars (even Vettes) will have them. You can still blow a launch with DRs if they aren't heated up or are over heated, i've done it. With equal traction the trap speed tells the story. If the GT500 heat soaks after a couple runs, the smart owner will park it and let it cool, but i think the Vegas event proved that they can be hot lapped. |

No. A full second is impossible to overcome unless the other driver makes a huge mistake. Anyone can get out of a car and claim they messed up this and that, they lost this much time here or there, whatever. That nonsense is moot because both cars have Human drivers that will make mistakes at some point. So it is a wash. When one car consistently loses then you need to accept that it might just be slower. 1-2 Tenths I'll agree can be overcome. More than that and you're pushing it. A full second and you'll need God giving you a tailwind strong enough to part an ocean to catch up.

People that drag race enough will tell you there are so many little variables that can mess up a launch. There is always a learning curve and if you screw one thing up and it can screw everything up. My nitto 555Rs I had to roast them in the burnout to get a good a 60. my MTs just a quick spin to get the rocks off them, my M&H drag radials needed a good burnout and I had to really drop the air in those. Did the person in front of you drive the wet box, were they on street tires tearing up the surface is the person in the next lane taking their sweet time to stage. so many things that can screw up a launch |

It matters if it could be done only once. And if the second closest time was 3 tenths slower then that would have been 11 flat. So it kinda does matter.

Ehh if it was a review type then yeah I see your point. This was a shop getting their best base line time before they start making parts for it.

[QUOTE=TheRealJA105;10711287
"With equal traction the trap speed tells the story."[/QUOTE] Fact: All things being equal your trap speed will actually be slower with a good launch and higher with some wheel spin. Also need to factor in if you shallow or deep stage. Shallow provides a foot or so of roll out before you trip the timing beam. Anyone that has ever run on a street tire and then switched over to a DR will notice a drop off in MPH with an improved ET. Of course, this assumes the street tire was able to provide adequate traction for a good launch, to begin with. If you're a hack behind the wheel in the first place then this will most likely not be the case. Last time I went to the drag strip it was laughable at best, people just don't know how to drive anymore, hence the ever-popular "roll race" WTH? |
