One would argue that creating this thread and encompassing all 5th gen enthusiasts in your rant has caused unneccessary drama...

Once again, from my original post:

Quote:
Not sure what it is about this car, but this crowd is very disappointing. The 5th gen camaro is just another muscle car. It is not "better" than anything else out there, it's just another platform. Being one of the tens of thouasans of people that owns one does not put you in some sort of exclusive club. It is still just a car. Get over yourselves.
The thread addresses this particular "crowd" (as noted above). Not every 5th gen camaro owner under the sun.

Lets not try and make me the "mean 'ol anti-camaro guy" just cuz you don't agree with what I say.

This is from your original post too. Do you not see how this can be misinterpreted and rub people the wrong way right off the bat? You made a blanket statement about 5th gen owners, and then ADDED your car show. Two different things.

I can understand that. And some people from here do fall into that crowd based on the criteria I stated.

Clearly the thread is mostly split on both sides of this issue. Some agree with my statement and see many occurrences like the ones I posted. Some think I'm a complaining idiot that is just talking crap for no reason.

Either way, free speech is #1.

You're all entitled to your opinion.

The irony of all you people who say "YOU CAN'T SAY SOMETHING IN PERSON, ONLY OVER THE INTERNET!" is down right hilarious. Pot, Kettle, Black.
I only asked that you contact me directly so that the issues you have can be addressed... In person or via PM... no drama just tell me so that we can address when members are not acting in the manner they should. I am not going to tar and feather anyone, you or my club members. just address the issue that you have. I am only offering you a solution... It is your choice to take it or leave it... But as the saying goes... If you aren't going to work toward the solution then you become part of the problem.

I am only trying to help... By not talking to me so I can fix it for you... Well that is drama in itself.

I don't disagree that people from car crowds can be a little obnoxious, regardless of what car they drive. All car clubs have "that crowd". But, from someone that has a very inefficient brain-to-mouth filter, you can't expect people to sympathize or see your point of view, when you address a group as large as you are and speak like we're all part of the problem. I think that's how a lot of the people that read your post feel. I've seen classic car guys, honda guys, euro guys... all be guilty of what you're describing. And in general, my experience is that our community as a whole is much more mature than the communities of imports. That might not be your experience, but it is many peoples' experiences. I'm just saying that you might tread carefully so that you don't burn bridges. And again, this is coming from someone who has to put effort into "Think. Type. Read. Submit."

Let me start by introducing myself. I am a board member and the Motorsports Event Coordinator for, what I believe, is the Camaro club in question from the OP first and ongoing posts. That being said I would like to point out a few things, as well offer up a few suggestions to assist you in calming the issues you may have with our group.

First let me help you with your very valid point: reckless driving.
We have a set of bylaws written by our founding members and in those "burnouts and other reckless and dangerous driving" will not be tolerated. I ask that if you see one of our members acting in this manner please contact me via PM here so that the issue can be addressed. I cannot be at every event so I ask that if we are not conducting ourselves properly behind the wheel you allow myself or another board members or co-chairs to deal with the situation so that it does not happen in the future.... However with that being said please keep in mind that there are performance mods that many of our members have done that cannot be seen, only heard or felt. The latter (felt) should only be displayed in a controlled environment such as a track.... But I know a lot of the time I am asked to start and rev my engine because they want to hear the exhaust.

Second point: taking up too many spaces. I too will agree that this can prove annoying but I know some of our members are very careful with their vehicles because they are like children to them. That being said I am QUITE sure that if asked to make room or tighten up their lines they would... In a heartbeat... But once again if you see they don't after being asked to... Please contact me, I will again, if necessary, address the individual(s) at fault.

Third Point: us waving you over and asking you to join... I am sorry we have offended you to the point you do not feel the desire to join us. It saddens me to know this... Because we really are a great group of different individuals! Granted we have our brain fart DBag moments... But who doesn't... Right? We motion for you to join us because we share at least one common bond. The Camaro.

Last point: our shirts. Sorry this bothers you, but there is nothing I can or will do about this.

Once again I mention, myself and the others on the board cannot make every show, event, or track day... (But trust me we try) if you happen to see a member of C5G acting in a way that reflects negatively on the club please let me know so that it can be handled.

I thank you for your patience and assistance with this... We really are a great group... I hope you will have an opportunity to see that and maybe, just maybe, hang out with us sometime... We are hosting a charity car show coming up next month to benefit CMN.... Perhaps we will see you there!

-Figrrl aka Bubbles of C5G
Sounds like you're aware of these issues and don't need his feedback. Strongly recommend stating this firmly at another club member and board meeting. Your club's culture can change to not only be respectful but aware and self regulating.

What I mean by culture is when a member is being doucey, its viewed as wierd and the behavior is shunned by the other members. So much so, members approach him and say "Hey, knock it off". Then no need for board members to enforce this.

Feel free to discuss this ASAP and be firm with them. The leader can set the culture.

+1
This was my original point to the OP. If you got a problem with the club, talk to the club.

Don't walk away from them, drive home, hop on your computer and start typing to an internet forum saying to other people "I don't like you guys". That's the easy and unproductive way out.

I mean, you were just there!

From what I have seen at a few car shows, a few things stood out to me.
The show has signs about noise, no burn-outs, etc. and "Do Not Take More Than ONE Space"...This ONE SPACE ONLY rule applies to "everyone", including the most exotic and unbelieveably restored and expensive cars at the show.

This rule, when disregarded or ignored, immediately puts out a bad vibe with everyone else at the show who would love to get away with the same thing. Not only parking "far-away", but also taking up more than your share, smacks of elitism, ego, and begs for attention for their desired "detachment" from everyone else. And then they wonder why all the old-timers and other car owners don't bow down and heap praise on their cars.

I would insist they park like everyone else, to see how willing they are to be a part of the show, rather than "steal" the show by expecting special treatment and juvenile actions of being stand-offish, and exceptions to the rules.

My guess is once told they have to behave respectfully like everyone else, they won't be back.

Really I think you need to again...

You choose to use the internet to vent on the club...

They find you.. and offer the olive branch...

You don't even have the balls to address them in person or via PM...

I'm guessing the OP is referring to the Morris IL show, or the Volo auo museum show... Both of which had a club participation award, if I recall, so parking together is not a bad thing, as suggested

Either way you still try to park with the folks you know and hang with and if the OP has buddies he likes to hang with so be it. No need to pull this crap.

We have so many 5th Gens that show up at one meet here that they gave us our own private section because we took up so many of the main parking spots. We gladly moved to the lot next door and sort of have our own private meet, but the atmosphere is total respect both ways. We even parter with the Mustang club on a car show every year and pull practical jokes on each other when we see each other out at meetings and such. The OP is just creating something that doesn't have to be.
