Currently I feel like I got a pretty solid build in my '23. Given that some tend to shy away from vehicles produced during the "covid period" due to perceived issues, I would be curious to see in 5-10 years how the '24 MY Camaros quality has held up and what the general perception would be at that time.

Unfortunately my guess is that disgruntled employees is never a good thing, and could lead to some unintentional QC issues. I say unintentional, because I like to believe that the assembly process eliminates most of the variability, but who knows.

I work at GM and it's business as usual. There's nobody disgruntled here and nobody wants to put out a bad product. The only change I'm seeing is nobody is volunteering for any additional overtime. The last 2 years has been unlimited overtime voluntary and still a lot of forced overtime. We are working the forced Saturdays but people aren't volunteering for Sundays. In all actuality I good amount of people want to go on strike just to get some time off work.

Lots of good info here. The collateral damage of a prolonged strike is important. They say about a third of the parts suppliers are already in financial trouble, and a prolonged strike will put some of them out of business. That obviously will exacerbate supply chain issues. I'm surprised those are still a thing this far after covid, but the lack of camaro allocations over the last few weeks indicates that it is.

Second is something I've already said previously. How serious are the UAW about some of their demands? Some of these things (full pensions, 4 day work week, etc.) are not going to happen. As much damage as a prolonged strike will cause, these things will be even worse for the OEMs if they agree to everything. Has Fain painted himself into a corner with his rhetoric and social media theatrics where he can't take a good deal now without looking weak?

Finally, the political fallout was mentioned. As this drags on, the economy itself is affected, which makes politicians (especially democrats who are typically allied with labor unions) look bad. You've got tons of plants right here in Michigan (under Democrat leadership), and bad economic numbers will fall at the feet of the President regardless of fault. Their political alliance may be strained by this already, as evidenced by Fain's chilly remarks about the Biden administration lately. (Withholding endorsement, don't need feds helping in negotiations, etc)

I hope they'll know a good deal when they see one. I certainly don't want to see Kia, Hyundai and others taking over the market. From there we get a race to the bottom on wages and benefits. I think in order to keep a thriving middle class, there must be good paying semi-skilled and unskilled jobs out there. Not everybody is cut out for college education, and that's the sad reality of it. If egos get involved and prevent a deal from being reached in a timely matter, the fallout will spread far beyond UAW workers and even OEMs.
