Well, then maybe you should stop grousing about how stressed out you are about taking the car on trips and potentially getting stranded, inconvenienced, etc.

There is zero logic in paying $2500 to hopefully resolve a problem that GM should fix, just because some exhaust systems cost the same as an oil pump replacement. In my opinion, there's a big difference between modding your car for more power vs. modding it to keep a $66K car from leaving you stranded, or worse, needing an engine replacement just a couple of thousand miles off the showroom floor.

I love my car, but it's a toy. If they're prone to have this issue, I would never think about taking it on a trip that could result in a total nightmare. I don't think that's off the wall insane on my part.

Just wanted to check in again and see if there are any 2019 cars with the problem. I am already over 3000 miles on my car. Not sure of my build date - is that on the sticker?

Thanks

I get it. Mine's a toy also. But if I was in the date range that seems to be experiencing big oil pump issues, I would consider getting a newer oil pump, for the peace of mind. But that's me and my automotive OCD talking.

If I was in fear of my oil pump blowing every time I got in the car, it would ruin the experience for me, and I would probably consider the change. I have also spent a ton of money modding the car, (PPF, BMR suspension, CF bits) so I can't afford to dump it for another.

Have a good one!

Just spit balling average numbers here, not exact.
They made 10k zl1s in 17 and 18 combined.
figure they build 10 months a year, that's 500 zl1s a month.
8 months of questionable pumps, that's 4,000 cars for the "bad" period.
25 bad pumps here in the forums, double or triple that number for people not on the forums, heck X4 its 100 bad pumps.
4000 cars, 100 pumps, I THINK the odds are in our favor. but what the hell do I know!!

This may just speed up my willingness to go internal. Might be cam time sooner than I wanted. LOL

My previous cars were Porsches and had an oil starvation issue on track days. The simple solution was to install an accusump system. Now with the Porsche it was only a momentary drop in oil pressure, not a pump failure. But, the accusump would add 1-2-3 quarts when it detected a low pressure event. I am considering installing one as insurance on my zle. It would introduce oil under pressure in there event of a pump failure. My thought is that it wouldn't save you from having to r&r the oil pump, but it might very well save the motor.
I had a 2QT Accusump with EPC valve on my Evo X. Worked great for pre-oiling at cold start, and of course high G starvation protection on track. When switched on it opened below 55 PSI, but the Evo ran at 80-90 psi over 6000 rpm when fully warm, 8700 redline. Selling it now as part of Evo part out.

Good to know it works as advertised. That was what I was hoping to hear.

Oil Pump Failure

2016 2SS Build date May 2016 19,500 miles

Stopped at intersection on 8/24/19 and "OIL PRESSURE LOW — STOP
ENGINE" message appeared. Shut it down and had it towed to dealer. It's still sitting there waiting for the new pump to arrive.

Is it being covered by the powertrain warranty?

We'll see. Tried to convince dealer to do an oil analysis but it was like talking to a wall. They just replace the pump and do a cold start. If it runs then it's good. I think I'll pull an oil sample after 1,000 miles and send it to Blackstone Labs (assuming it lasts that long).

Update: Blackstone Labs report was good
