I can talk to my android friends with no problems but my wife or kids can hardly hear me. Makes you wonder if it's the mic or the phones. But i did replace the mic and the A pillar trim on the driver side to attempt to fix it and it's still the same way.
My phone is crystal clear on Bluetooth both ways so I’m thinking you have an issue with your phone or mic.

Thing about the car is you can turn your phone off, or leave it at home.

I remain firmly adamant that OnStar should be optional. I hate it and I’m completely, unequivocally against it.

If you don’t want it, you don’t even get an OnStar or emergency button. No hardwsre, no transponder, no antenna.

When Onstar first rolled out back in 1996, the hardware had to be installed in the vehicle after purchase before delivery. During the delivery the subscription was activated with the customer. Initially, it was a very laborious and unpleasant experience for both the customer and the dealership (sales and service).

The natural progression to encourage adoption and thus subscriptions was to simplify the entire process which is how we got to the current configuration.

I would agree that your point has merit however as you and I both know, if the hardware was "optional", dealers would still check that box when ordering their inventory so the majority of vehicles on the road would still have the hardware.

OnStar was formed in 1996 as a collaboration between GM, Electronic Data Systems and Hughes Electronics Corporation. Each of the founding companies brought a specific area of expertise to the enterprise: GM brought vehicle design and integration and a distribution system of millions of vehicles, EDS brought much of the systems development and information management and customer service technologies, while Hughes (creators of DirecTV) contributed communications and satellite technology and automotive electronics.

In 1996, GM North America Operations President Rick Wagoner officially launched OnStar at the Chicago Auto Show. OnStar delivered its first product and service to the market in 11 months, in the fall of 1996 for model-year 1997 Cadillac DeVille, Cadillac Seville, and Cadillac Eldorado models

So? I’d order mine without it. I removed the transponder board and if I could I’d smash it over Mary Barra’s desk and epoxy the fragments to her smartphone . Seriously.

The reason this will never happen is GM would lose potential money from connected services on that vehicles 2nd or even 3rd and later owners. That and now some GM vehicles not only come with the hardware but you pay for 3 years in the sticker price.

Further, everything in OnStar is also much of what runs Super Cruise, which is optional on more and more GM cars and trucks.

GM has stated it believes (I’m skeptical) there is $25 BILLION in subscription based features and services. That alone assure every vehicle will ge5 the hardware.

And lastly, all of the OnStar hardware and its connectivity is what enables OTA programming, which in many cases these days can address recalls. FYI, although Tesla passed OnStar, GM did beat them to the first OTA recalibration of a powertrain module. Transmission in the CTS as I recall.

Sorry, but your idea, perfect for you and I believe many, many more, won’t ever happen.

Yeah I know. All the more reason for my next car to be a ‘70 Camaro SS396.

GM should just pull out the old blueprints, tool and die sets, and stamp forms, just put a couple airbags in ‘em and sell them as new cars.

i feel like that with this blazer i had picked up recently. its an old m1009 with a 6.2 diesel, most of the fuse box doesnt work, it has no a\c, but it runs and drives like a champ. simple cars were so easy to own and work on.

Heck yeah man. Love the last of the true square body K5’s, 1987 I think?

I’ll take mine with a 4 on the floor, TBFI 350, in two tome ice blue/silver with gray interior.

Good ones are going for above $40k these days.

Obviosly what enthusiasts in this forum want doesn't mesh with reality, otherwise they wouldn't have cancelled the camaro twice.

I just hope they enjoy the future they're creating thru greed. I think it's just a downward trajectory for car's place in the household with enshitifying cars.
