When I was 19 I went on a trip to Arizona with my mom and I begged her to rent a convertible mustang. So we got to the rental place at the airport in Phoenix they had a Camaro and a mustang and I thought that may be more unique, so we went with that. I had never driven a fast car before but I knew what an SS was, and when I turned the engine on, it was so loud in comparison to my 2008 Mazda cx-9, and I got up out of the car and found the SS badge. I fell in love with the car immediately. I got a criminal speeding ticket that cost me 4k to get out of. I got my first job ever when I got back to Florida to pay for the car. I wanted a 2SS black on black and I dreamt of it nearly every night. I could not afford to pay cash for a new 2SS vert (like 60k after dealer fees and taxes) so I bought one with 18k miles on it in Miami for 41k. I worked for 1.5 years while in college to be able to pay cash for that car. Don't regret a damn penny I put into that car. Had it for a year this January. Now I'm going into flight school in style.Truly a dream come true. Here's a picture of the one we rented out in AZ.

This is my 4th to date. I started at 16 with an 81 TA, traded it in for a 88 gta at 17. Dad took it to trade it in for a 93 z28 for graduating and came back with a damn s10. After my 04 wrangler was stolen, I purchased a 00 pewter z28. This time I was actually looking to replace my c6 grandsport that I had sold with a c7 zt1. Except upon test drive, we realized how much headroom that had been removed from the c7, compared to the c6 and my 6’5l torso tall partner couldn’t sit in it. So I drove my 2ss and fell in love. I’d have preferred an 18 2ss 1le with sunroof but they are few and hard to find. So I’ll add the front brakes to match my mrc upgrade the wheels and sways and pretty much be an a8 1le

I always liked and had muscle cars. In this case my grandkids couldn't fit in the back seat of my 15 Vette so the Camaro was the next best option. And I have to admit I don't miss the Vette one bit.

Been a Mustang guy since I was born.. thanks to grandpa. Had a 2013 v6, upgraded to a 2018 GT. One of the worst customer service experiences I had, car ended up getting lemoned.. joined the dark side... <3

It is my third/fourth Camaro.
I borrowed a 1967 for an extended period but my parents loudly objected to me buying it. Then I bought a 1969 (a Z-28 actually) which I loved. Later I bought a 1982 Z-28 that our son called our "Night Rider" car, but he outgrew the back seat. Now I have the 2017. And yes, my wife encouraged me to buy it. I owned a 1968 Corvette after the 1969 Camaro. Big mistake. Total piece of crap car, no redeeming value, you literally could not give me one of them again. The '69 Camaro was a far, far better and more enjoyable car. Very sorry I sold it. So Camaros have been part of my life on and off for the better part of 50 years. And my wife and I have been Chevrolet owners for over 35 continuous years. Plus her dad worked for them and he was of course a Chevy guy. So it is in our blood I guess.

I was driving a beat up 2002 Ford F250 diesel that I converted to run off of waste vegetable oil (still driving it!) My wife said:
"I'm not riding in your dirty old greasy truck anymore! You HAVE to get a new truck!" After listening to that for about 3 years, I went up to the dealership and bought a new 2016 RS. I brought it home, parked it out front and said: "There I got a new car. Don't want to hear anymore about it." Her jaw hit the ground. Traded the RS for an SS 2.5 years later.

Blew the turbo in my Red Sport. Dealer would not honor the warranty as they said I modified the exhaust. Dumped it for the Camaro. Can't drive a camry or accord, I would be bored to death.

Ha! You stole my line... ![]() I've always had a fondness for more unusual cars, especially wagons. My 2004 Mazda 6 wagon, although still looking new inside and out, was starting to leak oil at 162K miles and I had the itch for something new. I always wanted a convertible and we did have a VW Beetle convertible that my wife traded in for her CRV, but it was bright yellow and that was NOT the color I wanted to drive in, especially that car. It was time for a mid-life crisis car for sure. I started looking at what other convertibles were out there and I sort of settled on the FIAT 124 Spider/Mazda Miata twins - until I sat in one. Talk about a potential death-trap! Way too low and cramped for a daily driver. Thought about the Buick Cascada but didn't get very good reviews. Although I would have loved a C or E-Class convertible, way too much money. Moved on to the Camaro and Mustang since they did have back seats (ha-ha). At the time I was starting to look for something new in September, 2017, my wife's CRV loan was done and I broke my left foot building my daughter's deck, so I got that all-important sympathy vote from my wife for a new car. ![]() I was always more of a Chevy guy than a Ford guy (previously owned a Cavalier Type 10 and a Celebrity Eurosport wagon), so I did a build-your-own on the Chevy site and the EXACT car I was looking for was sitting at my local dealer as a '17 leftover. And it was almost $10K off sticker. It was just meant to be... Last edited by RickErnst; 01-24-2020 at 02:38 PM. |
