I don't need to save money for old age. I'm in Canada, Government takes care of us.

Well I finally pulled the trigger and ordered a 2SS, cant wait to get it and I hope we all fit in it haha. It will be the daily driver so I hope it goes good in all the snow we get. I probably won't be able to fill the tank up that much if gas prices keep going up but it will fun when I can afford the gas for it.

I'm in sales - so how much I make can change quite a bit each year.

I'll say that most of my peers drive cars that cost quite a bit more than my camaro 2ss.

I also set it up so that my monthly payment is super duper low.

I could certainly afford a more expensive car - but don't want or need one.

And besides - I bought the camaro specifically to take to the track and race. why would I want to crash a $100,000 car?

Household income is in the 170k+ range. I'm starting to reconsider my decision to purchase a 1LE. I'm looking at what kind of used car I can get that will be reliable and last 10+ years for around $25k.

Being fiscally conservative is just sometimes a real bummer. :(

Also, LOL @ thread necromancy.

Yeah that's what I was saying.

If you look at the person who did it, they didn't even comment on the thread necromancy.

I'm gonna crack $250k this year, and my better half will be at $150k, and I still have a hard time letting go of $$ for a new car. I really do admire those that can make these decisions and follow through. I just way over think things.

With you there. I'm probably a year or two away from $200k but I have a hard time justifying stuff like this.

Also I'm baffled as to how anyone making $40k-$60k a year is buying a car worth more than their post tax income? Seriously people, talk to a financial adviser.

Some people choose to pay off a small house and get a nice car when they're young. Not take out 1/4+ million dollar mortgages and drive a cheap vehicle. My mortgage and bills can be paid on unemployment if that situation comes up. It's nice not having everything tied up into a house banking on the market not crashing and interest rates staying low, God forbid they rise near double digits again.

If I have a mortgage in Los Angeles [which I do] then it's going to be more than $250k borrowed. But also, if you look at what it costs to rent it's not really that much cheaper to rent unless you want to live in a studio in an area of town that you don't prefer.

Also once you have the low interest rate, why would it matter if interest rates go up? Unless you're financing with some sort of ARM then you are protected from fluctuation in the cost of money.

You can do whatever you want with your money, but if you make as much money a year as the car costs then that is a poor financial decision, like objectively.

You can't judge just by their yearly wage, there are way more variables. Maybe the guy has a house/money coming to him in a few years, or already paid off. A few of my friends have/are falling into inheritance already and they're in their 20's.

In my line of work you can make from as low as 40k to as high as 300k. All depends if you're an apprentice, or journeyman, only want to work at home, willing to travel across the country to work, take a job as a mechanic, welder, foreman,GF,super. It's nice being in a trade where you can pick and choose your own jobs/hours and if you want half the year off with 75k that's fine, or hustle to make 200 and only get a month off spaced out in non ideal times.
