GM does have a "specialized" repair center for this process, it is called the dealer IE the place the OP has their car at. No manufacture uses anything other than the certified dealers to work on the cars, well other than Ford if you own one of the new GT's.

Yes, but look at how its torn down. How on earth did he keep up with anything in that mess? Im hoping that they decided before the tear down that it was too extensive and did the tear down for documentation purposes.

It was already decided to warranty the engine as a replacement I am pretty sure. The scored cylinder was the nail in the coffin

Its been a week already and still no call from GM. Guy over at the dealer told me that a lifter came out of place and that was about it. They were going to have to open the block again which is unacceptable. I also don't believe that was the issue due to the fact that the car was smoking and wouldn't turn on anymore.

rickster. I am so sorry you are going thru this. I would be beyond livid. you seem really more patient than I would be. I would get an atty and get a new car. this is b.s. the car and mechanics have issues. no matter what they do, that car WILL not hold any value! this is crap. you would be upside down on the loan even. you gotta get a new car. I sure hope you come out ok on this. so frustrating. I woiuld not accept another rebuild or another engine in a new car like yours. best wishes to you and stay firm on this. way , way too much money you spent on this. if anything, I hope all this doesn't sour you on GM/Chevy and the Camaro. I have a 13 that's been a good car. best of luck, stand firm on this. K

I take it in your part of the woods if the vehicle is out of commission for 30 days for the same issue, its not considered a lemon?

The tear down pictures were of my car, not the OP's. Just to clarify...

Rickster, take as many pictures as you can to document your problem. Escalate at GM and demand a buy back and another Camaro. The dealer can fix it and sell it as a loss or ship it back to GM. Don't ask what can be done, tell them what you want. Your time is worth money and you have been paying on a car that you can't use. Contact a lawyer as well. They are a dealership, just because they said they put their best guy on it really doesn't mean anything. They were just blowing smoke up your a*s*s to make you feel good about the repair. I would think their best guy would have warmed the car up and drove it so what happened to you would not have taken place. I'm sure they are giving you a watered down BS story anyway. If a lifter came loose they obviously are not qualified for motor work.

I think you are allowed to act smug and say, "I told you so" now.
