So I'm just going to let him do his things !!! I'm getting him his favorite dinner afterword's and a bottle of my Old Rip Van Winkle 10 year bourbon. It's not a real Pappy Van Winkle, but it's amazing bourbon non the less !

PS: How and where do you even get your hands on a 2023 Camaro ZL1 service manual if your just a regular car guy?
Ooh, I wish I was your buddy taking care of your upgrades, yum Have fun and hope he can fix your car up all right!

These days the best option for a service manual seems to be a short term ACDelco TDS subscription (see near the bottom of the page) and then saving all the data you need like a click monkey. I purchased the 2018 service manual from Helms Inc., but GM has no longer offered full shop manuals there since 2019.

Good info! I ordered a one month access... I did find procedures for SAS reset, all kinds of stuff ! My brother in-law already knew this stuff. But I wanted to print it to PDF to keep. Also, I'm trying to find in the online access subscription where to find the torque specs and the torque patterns for the engine such as intake, exhaust, heads, valve convers, supercharger lid etc. I want to get as much of that stuff printed to PDF as I can before my one month runs out. I can only find the info such as torque settings like 18in lbs, initial pass, first pass, second pass and final pass. But no diagram showing torque "patterns". Does anyone know where that may be in those documents?

Also, progress was not really made last night. Be Bro-In-Law hooked up his crazy fancy Snap-on Tool Diag. tool (made my gaming laptop look like a abacus!) Anyway, he was able to read live data logging for pretty much everything on my car such as throttle position, brake pedal position, lights on lights off, even mirror position etc. But he couldn't get any data when turning the steering wheel left or right, the data value stayed at zero. He thinks the problem is deeper. This evening we're are going to confirm no blown fuse down stream somewhere. But the fuse that's on the unit inline at the wheel/ SAS is good. So we'll see. I might order a new Steering Angle Sensor anyway just in case. Here is a pic of the current state! UGH !

PS: He deferred taking the bottle of bourbon until as he said "until she's going down the road with no service lights" !

The manual should contain torque sequence diagrams as well, see an example for the LT4 supercharger lid below.

Section 15 covers the steering wheel in great detail, you may want to save those diagrams and check all the related fuses. I'll see if I my (mildly fancy) scan tool can capture the steering wheel angle, just for kicks.

More good luck with your quest

Great News !!! She's ALL GOOD !!! So, after further diagnostics and seeing the live data on the scanner. The scanner showed the steering angle sensor rotating and showing the angle degree changing positive/negative. But, I couldn't recalibrate it / complete the relearn process for zero position. It gave errors about control module rejected the request. I picked up a new SAS today and installed it and presto! The recalibration/relearn zero position worked fine and no dash warnings and no error codes! So, I guess the original SAS I had was kind of working, but it most have been glitched since it wouldn't allow the recalibration process. That was strange, but replacing it got everything back working correctly! I can say I learned a lot from this process and learned I hit a new high for my stress level! Thanks!

Greetings to all ! It’s been a while since I've posted on this thread, but not much to update. Starting to drive the ZL1 a lot more and really enjoying it! I didn’t pay much attention to it before, but the response from people is always cool! Until I start it up and scare the S-H out of them!. People just walking on the sidewalk and other car guys/gals, even from Mustang’s and Doge drivers, are mostly a “thumbs up” reaction! Glad that none so far have been too over-zealous and try to egg me on for a race (excepts the A-Hole at the casino that day I mentioned in a previous post). Still waiting to get my ZL1 on a dyno (want to find one that's local). But I have a question regarding my exhaust/mods/tune, if anyone can give insight. The video attached demonstrates how my ZL1 sounds when I decelerate, pretty much from any gear/any speed, just by lifting off the pedal or downshift manually or let the auto do it on it's own. My exhaust snaps crackles and pops, but not in the way I really want it to. It happens every time I lift off the pedal after getting into the throttle, even if I don't WOT on acceleration. The video is with the car in track mode, but it does the same in touring mode, just not as "loud". Any ideas, is this after firing, back firing, is it too rich, do I need to contact my tuner etc. Thank in advance for any advice.

Totally normal, but you can tune it out by raising the values in the minimum spark table if you want less popping. GM actually added more popping in 2019 by reducing spark in the right areas during decel. If you put values in from 2017/18, the pops go away.

edit- you can probably just tell Andrew you want no pops and he'll fix it. Takes less than a minute- don't know what he'd charge you. OR you can do it yourself in HPT if you feel confident enough.

A backfire is combustion and exhaust back through the intake, I think people confuse a backfire for the crackles and pops.

I can hear in your video the rather high pitched stuff and it's not really the sound that I like either, it's tinny or raspy, but it's not a backfire. As said your tuner should be able to reduce that for you. I think the 2020+ Camaro's had more of this in the stock tune than my 18 1LE had which was rather minimal. But this 23 ZL1 I have is much more aggressive on it with the stock tune. (I am NOT tuned).

A fun side note: I can drive through any parking garage, decel my ZL1 and presto ! About 80% of all the car alarms in the garage go off all at once !!!

Good info ! Thanks!

I did email Andrew

and I found this on the forum here:

...and by the way... my tuned file and my as found stock file both have the save values on this screen of HPTuners:

yeah, but that's not where the magic happens. Go to the bottom right of the spark main page and find minimum final spark table. the top 3 or 4 rows of that table dictate the pops. Compare your file to a 2017 or 2018 ZL1 and you should see that yours is more negative.

Well, I mean if you want to completely get rid of them you can turn off DFCO, of course.

So, I don't see the option / button for "minimum final spark", but I did find (see screen shot) a table that looks similar to what a "minimum final spark" table looks like:
