I was just trying to get some thoughts from other people on decent models & if anyone has owned certain models that they are fond of?
How much are you looking to spend? And why type of action?

If you want a semi auto you really only have 5 options.
- 10/22 which runs between $200-$250
- S&W M&P15 22 which runs between $300-$400
- H&K look alikes that will run about $600
- SR-22 which runs about $700
- or if you already have an AR-15 that is chambered in .223 you can buy a conversion kit and use your AR and the good ones run about $200 http://www.midwayusa.com/Find?status...erSearchQuery=

If you want bolt action, sadly you really only have two companies that I would even consider, Savage and Marlin. Both companies have a dozen or more styles to choose from so you really have a lot of options. Sadly Ruger does not make a 22lr bolt rifle.

Personally if I was getting a 22lr semi auto it would be either a 10/22 or the S&W. And I was was getting a bolt action I would get a Savage and if possible I would get one that had their Accutrigger.

I have the S&W and it's a great gun to go plinking with. The SR-22 is way over priced. If I wanted to spend $700 on a gun it wouldn't be a 22.

$700?
$569 up here at Cabella's.
http://www.cabelas.ca/index.cfm?page...=1738&ID=23555

Must be cheaper there. We get the collapsible stock too.
Not to mention, up here the M&P is considered an AR varient.
Yup. It is restricted.
Furthermore, all the hundreds of mags that were imported, lawfully purchased from gun dealers are now considered prohibited devices. After the fact.
Seems someone in the RCMP decided after they had been sold for over a year legally, that because S&W is advertising them as magazines that fit in the pistol version, they all must be now pinned to ten rounds. Mandatory 3 years in federal prison, and a 10 year firearms ban for non compliance.
Thus, my prejudice.
Nice eh?

If your looking for something less expensive than say a 1022, you might look into the Marlin 795. http://www.marlinfirearms.com/firear...oading/795.asp
I've got one with a scope that is great for plinking. Cheap fun!

I bought my son a Cricket for his first 22. This was after I shot against a lady using one on a dueling tree, and she creamed me using my 10/22. It did not hurt that she was a world champion IDPA shooter, but still I thought she is using a single shot and I have a 30 round magazine. She still creamed me.

It is very accurate and very cheap. I highly recommend it. We take it every time we shoot and it is always the most fun to use.

Let's keep the sections moving along and happy, guys.

On the last page, I read, "agree to disagree."

Good to know we can all have an adult discussion w/out it getting out of hand. Remember, we try to avoid getting into politics. Kind of hard when talking about gun laws. But, we all need to try to keep it on topic if we can.

Thanks.

So does the KSG. The KSG also is certified to shoot 3" magnum slugs. The SRM may also be able to shoot these but I don't see it listed.

The KSG has one big thing I noticed over the SRM. The KSG is legal in all 50 states, the SRM is not. The SRM unfortunately is classified as an assault weapon due to it's semi-auto and high capacity design. Some states have restrictions on how much ammo such weapons can hold and since the civi model SRM only comes with a 16 shell magazine this makes the SRM illegal in these states until SRM releases low cap magazines. Keltec was originally going to make the KSG semi-auto but they wanted the gun to be 50 state legal which is why they went pump action instead.

Also look at the price. The couple websites that I found that has a SRM 1216 listed are asking $2,400. For another $100 I can buy 2 Benelli M4's and the couple KSG's I've seen are going for $800.

It's interesting, but I'd rather have a Saiga 12 w/ drum magazine.

That should brighten your day!

Just don't do like I did w/ my AR. I bought all kinds of cheap heavy tacti-cool accessories, laser, etc. found out they all sucked and made the gun too difficult to handle, and then outfitted it properly w/ Magpul/Ergo Grip/Eotech site like I should have done in the first place.
