After several years of ownership finally finished the exterior upgrades / modifications with an APR GTC-300 wing.

Just waiting on one more piece for the interior then the car is fully done.

Haha. I wish I was in that price range. Originally paid $14k for the car in 2019. Everything I’ve done myself so it’s just time. Aftermarket parts only in for $9k. Nothing I bought was paid at full price, plus made money from selling parts as I modified them.

Once my roll cage comes in I’ll be in total for close to $25k (original car cost plus aftermarket parts minus oem parts sold). Nowhere near the cost of an SS or ZL1 at the time. But cars paid off, well maintained, and stronger than ever. Plus now if it ever breaks, I can just buy the SS or ZL1 and put my parts on.

158,500 miles and going strong.

If you don't mind my asking, how did you get a 3 year old (at the time) SS for $14k? Did it already have more than 140,000 miles on it or something?

He doesn’t have an SS, that’s how.

Yep. Not an SS. Just a V6. At the time I had just gotten a Jeep for the wife. A month later I bought the Camaro as a commuter for me (don’t want to rack up miles in the Mercedes at the time) so I got a nice discount. And, I know it’s been a few years but used car prices pre-Covid were not the used car prices they are now. Was a 2016 with 40k miles on it. Just the V6 since I’d be driving 120 miles daily and needed something decent on gas. I honestly didn’t plan on doing what’s been done, but as we know, one thing leads to another…

Ah, gotcha, saw the hood vent and was thinking SS (of course that style hood vent didn't come out until 2019)... Good on you for getting the car you want at a great price!

I'm thinking of going this route too since I have the 1LE wheels. Which ones did you go with and what was the final cost? I was considering the Nitto NT55 G2 but the Michelins are so good... how are you liking them?

Having driven my buddy's '18 SS 1LE with the OE Goodyear SC3 and Michelin 4S, I knew I would never install the latter on my own SS 1LE. Why? The 4S took every positive attribute of the SS 1LE and "softened" it. Steering and chassis response along with feel were degraded. Sure, the 4S is better in cooler temps and rain than the SC3, but both of those are not high on my list. And if you want to track, the 4S is a huge downgrade.

I went with the Pilot Super Sports in the OE SS 1LE sizes. There are many variants of the PSS, but I stayed away from the run flats. I chose the BMW Star "*" for the front, and the Ferrari "K3" for the rear. To my surprise these PSS's actually improved feel and steering response vs the OE SC3. And precision was even more improved. So much so that my first fun road trip to the Smokey Mtns in 2023 , the precision made every turn of the steering pure enjoyment. The sidewall is as stiff as the SC3. If you care about steering feel, response and precision then the PSS is the better choice. And realistically with better cold and wet performance over the SC3. I haven't tracked the PSS and have no intentions to do so as I have dedicated sets of wheels for that. I suspect the SC3 will have lots more ultimate and hot grip.

BTW, the Nittos won't compare to any of the above tires. They might put the power down better and be cheaper, but that's about it.

Good info. Thanks. My car is a daily driver. I have a set of Pirelli Sottozero on stock rims for winter. Looking for a good daily tire to replace my worn GY SC3 that are on my 1LE summer wheels. No plan to track it. Looking for one that has optimal balance between grip/response and treadwear.

It doesn’t matter how you get there as long as you’re happy you got there.
