My car goes in for torque converter replacement Monday. It's a MY17 with 3200 miles. It is concerning to have this significant of a problem at such low mileage. Hopefully they will do a good job and I won't have any additional problems on down the road.

I just took mine in as I've had the issue very slowly get worse and worse. I'm so tempted to trade it in for a manual but man ill lose so much money especially since I did 0% It sucks!!
Dealer saying they cant reproduce it but willing to take a drive with me. Thing is, its sporadic. When it switches to V4, though, its getting louder. I hate the V4 mode. After an engine replacement at ~600 miles now this?!!? |

Let me tell you what you guys are in for. My car brand new was fine. Then the shudder started and it got flushed 3 times. shudder came back and got the torque converter replaced along with the transmission cooling line recall. After the torque converter replacement the car developed harsh 1-2 shifts and 2-3 shifts when the transmission gets up to temp. They switched it to the new GM DexronHP fluid and did a relearn on the transmission and it did no good. The shudder came back again after 4000 miles on the new converter. This has been one of the worst pain in the ass cars ive ever owned. Ive owned a 14 1SS A6 and had zero issues. Then had a 14 1LE and had zero issues. GM had great intentions with this A8 and this car but poorly executed it. I doubt ill ever buy another Camaro unless they make some serious changes and its proven to work.

As stated before, I had the flush done about 1500 miles ago. Shudder comes a little more often now, not as bad as it was before flush. Was thinking of having the TC changed when I bring in the car for its first oil change. Reading below not sure this is a good idea to do so. If new TC shudders then why go through the change out.

Dropped my car off at the dealer today. Hit 26,xxx miles and didn't think much of the shudder until I read this. Hopefully they fix it hassle free. I have headers but no tune so it shouldn't be an issue.

I'm taking mine in Thursday. Got to go for a ride with one of the trans techs at my dealer. They have been good to be so hopefully this will be pretty painless.

Just scheduled an appointment on Monday to get the TC replaced. I had it flushed in December and he told me then to come back in 500 miles and he would replace the converter. It's been about 1000 and honestly it drives 90% better with the flush but I still think I feel some shuddering every now and then. Outside of that, last night on the way home after driving in manual mode a bit when I put it back in drive it started doing some really weird rpm fluctuations on very light acceleration, and slow speeds. Anyone else ever get this? Anyway that is what scared me into the decision to call today and set up the TQ converter replacement. I had a friend say when you feel the shudder something in the converter starts delaminating, so that was a factor too.

Curious question: Are there aftermarket Tc for the a8? Do they eliminate the shudder?

not sure of any success with just an aftermarket T/C without the shift point adjustments......it has been discussed, probably in the transmission section.

Picked up my 2SS A8 (dealer/corp. car).
VIN search yields no recalls for this issue. Should I still get it checked out? I don't think the car shudders, though. |
