Haha! That's the nice thing about living in Illinois, a 40 minute drive in any direction from the city and you're in the country, well not East because of the lake. You pick out a nice stretch of country road and drive cool back and forth a few miles to make sure the road is smooth (no gravel or potholes etc...) and get familiar with it then open things up. It's just you, your Camaro, and corn fields. There are no other cars or police around and if you mess up the only thing to hit is corn stalks. I call it Kamikaze or Recon missions. Even if another car shows up you can spot them from a long way off and you can slow down so you don't endanger or scare anyone else.

Another cool thing about doing that is there are ghost towns all over the state. You head out west in Illinois and you can find abandoned highways and small towns without even trying. I always kick myself for forgetting to bring my camera but it's so dark it's almost impossible to take pictures anyway.

I took my Uncle out west this past summer after he felt the bug to open up his Vette ZR1 and he couldn't believe how many roads there are late at night that you can have all to yourself but we had to stop because it was getting too dangerous. You can race your car so hard that you terrify yourself.

The only real worry is Deer and you have to be careful when you stop to take a break, mother nature has her funny ways of reminding you you're in her sand box. I wound up in Missouri one night and made my way past St. Louis into the boonies dude and when I got out to stretch my legs I was chased back into my car by a swarm of Bee's. The other nightmare when you're running old roads is getting a flat tire or your car breaking down. Help is a long way off.

You have to do stuff like that to get rid of the Heavy Foot Syndrome and as long as your careful and stay within your skills you'll be just fine. A UFO might snatch you up though.
