That's crazy. There is zero chance I'd ever put $12/gallon gas into a toy, and for sure not into any daily driver. $10/gallon gas would definitely push me into an EV.

Ya... Everyone will make that determination at some point I'd imagine. I'd have to get the electric service to my house upgraded to 200 amp or higher. Then I'd have to get the feed from my house to my garage upgraded. Then I'd have to have level 2 chargers installed into my garage. The upfront cost would be pretty substantial, not to mention the cost of the actual EV. (I can buy a lot of gas for that cost) I don't know gas will ever come back down to $2/gallon, time will tell... But I also don't think it will stay where it is. It may for a while, but it will come back down. (That's what I think anyway.)

The cliff isn't that far away, but who cares. Gas is expensive, but needlessly being forced into buying a 60K-100K plus EV isn't. Also don't consider what electricity cost or availability will be at the time, that shouldn't be considered either....lol In six months, gas will be even higher. But when it drops five cents a gallon, then things will be ok...lol... Voting has consequences....This madness is all totally unnecessary. |

I filled one car at the same Costco Monday at $3.69 for 87 and another car Tuesday at $4.07 for 93. The Camaro still has a full tank of E85. Shows how quickly the prices are rising.

Cost to convert to gasoline sits with the petroleum companies. Very little influence by POTUS or Congress. And that impact tends to be long-term (several years forward), not short term (months). Federal gasoline tax is $0.18. That is one lever Congress can pull. I’ve never seen it happen. State gasoline taxes vary wildly. Michigan is $0.27 and there is discussion of waiving it during the Russian invasion of Ukraine. California is at $0.51. Pennsylvania is the highest at $0.587. So, basically, Federal and State government (the people I can vote for or against) impact on MY gas prices totals $0.45. Other states will have different tax loads, but the highest would be Pennsylvania at $0.767. So where’s the rest of the price at the pump? The rest is global price of oil (US governments have no affect here) and whatever profits the petroleum companies decide they need to make this quarter. Makes me wonder…is anyone pressuring the oil companies to maybe settle for a little less profit for a quarter or two to help out the common consumer? If so, I haven’t heard about it.

MN Fuel tax is 28.5 cents, so very similar. https://www.revenue.state.mn.us/petr...rates-and-fees
I imagine it is hard for anyone to pressure OPEC and other oil producers. Not a lot of leverage or concern I would guess on the producers side. US Oil production is ramping up as I understand it. Perhaps the switchover from winter to summer blend might help? Seems there is always a period of time spring/fall during switchover that prices fluctuate a bit more. All of that pales compared to the Russia-induced volatility though.
