However, if you think about it, the only relays that make sense for this is the fuel pump and starter relays. This must be similar for the Mustang and the Challenger, or other often stolen models, which isn't a lot to research and remember even in total. So the solution works against the dumbest of the dumbest, and I don't know how much of the "thief population" that represents.

Happy New Year to my Camaro 6 Forum Brothers and Sisters.
This discussion is very interesting and I have to admit I've learned a lot about anti-theft protection. Although I doubt most of the morally deprived car thieves would invest time on this forum but openly discussing these available options does provide useful reference material. Of course, no one can simply walk up a vehicle and know which anti-theft options are employed but, we are providing some clues. Nevertheless, this discussion is valuable to anyone who owns a Camaro and would like to keep their car from getting stolen.

I've done maybe 25 stereo headunit installs on older cars, mostly adding AA/CarPlay capability to pre-2016 cars/trucks, some requiring complicated/expensive adapters for the CANBUS, wheel controls, front/rear cameras, integrated climate controls, etc. There's always that moment when you have everything connected and you power up for the first time. It's when you know your two hour job will turn into an additional 3-4 hours of troubleshooting or not. Now think of that kind of moment but looking at jail time if you can't resolve it fast enough, or you just shut the door quietly and move along, undetected. |

Question about that NoStart Remote Relay device. Does the relay have constant power so that it can be cycled to blocked or on status? Wondering if the ignition would have to be on.

What about one of these generic anti theft relays on the fuel pump or starter?

I have the old school first generation remote controlled mild to wild exhaust cut out system that I’ve been playing with on different fuel, starter, ignition fuses. This is my busy time at work so I haven’t had time to try it out on everything yet so as to come to a suggestible conclusion.

I experimented with mine a bit (car is in storage for the winter). The relay doesn’t seem to have constant power. The starter relay is disabled automatically when the car powers down (along with the lights and radio). You have to manually press the Camaro’s Start button to power it up and then you can use the relay’s remote to enable starting. The downside seems to be that Remote Start from the Camaro fob is disabled. That would be inconvenient for people that want to use Remote Start to warm up their car in winter.

Well, the relay attack doesn't really worry me, but the key clone obd one does.
The OBD port lock combined with a steering wheel lock might be enough for when you have to park somewhere you're not super comfortable with. If you're parking every night somewhere exposed you're going to need more though. The real issue is that you can surf over to amazon and easily buy basically a car theft tool. That's super wrong. |

Soler engineering, and their throttle module has a throttle disable mode for the throttle via app. They can break in but do nothing after that. Pretty good piece of mind.

keep in mind that any module is easier to bypass than any OBD interface. A set of alligator clips can bypass any aftermarket module. it's easier for me to find aftermarket wiring than relocated OEM wiring.
