Quick update: Andrew at CSP Racing says "The Tune is Great" after 5 separate tweaks! So, the only thing left on my short list is to: 1) replace my steering wheel with my new carbon fiber one I got from carbonaddons, and 2) add the DSX Flex Fuel kit. Also, I've already made the decision that I will be shipping my ZL1 to Andrew's shop this fall for a stage 3 or stage 4 package ! Also, I will be getting my ZL1 on a dyno soon at a local speed performance shop that seems to have really good reviews !

Finally figured out what was causing my LTFT and STFT to be way higher than Andrew (CSP Racing) was expecting to see while tuning my car. He really stuck in there with me and kept pointing out where I might have a problem and suggestion on how to correct them. I came to find out the KaTech valve covers do not have the best PCV hoses connections and it was leaking vacuum at that connection on the passengers side. It's so far in the back and tuck up under neath the firewall arch, that it was hard to get to and hard to tell it was messed up. I hope I can close the chapter on my mod projects soon!!! Next, find a good reputable dyno here in Columbus or close to Columbus. I had one suggested to me, I just have to go check them out.
Looks good! Here's mine...

Ugh... Started her up this morning to drive to my client, immediately noticed the [Service], [ESC] and the [Traction Control/StabiliTrak] warnings were on. I did a "Dismiss Message", and all but the [Traction Control/StabiliTrak] went off. Not sure if this is related to replacing the wheel, or if I'm back to a glitchy gauge issue like I was having before. Then, as I started driving, I noticed the wheel was probably a grove or 2 off center toward the left when driving straight. It bugged me enough that I pulled around the block and parked it back in the garage. A side note: When I took off the stock wheel to install the new one. Behind the wheel, there was a circular black plastic reel type part with two separate flat electrical ribbon cables (about 1/4" width) wound around it, both wound in the same direction. I've not been able to find any reference to what this is, or the proper procedure to make sure it's reinstalled correctly. I assumed just wined it around the disc, making sure it's not so tightly wound that when the wheel is turned all the way to the right, it doesn't over stress the ribbon cables or snap them? I have no clue!

Edit: I did find a video that shows this guy (Zander13) struggling with the same plastic disc part, but his didn't unspool and come off like mine did. Here is a screen cap showing the part:

Edit #2: Found exactly a video from Muscle Car Central where he describes that no one else he saw replacing the wheel and he issue with the black plastic reel coming off... but he did and he warns that you should use a screw drive to push inward on the plastic ring to keep it from coming off with the wheel. It looks as if it's related to the "heated" steering wheel option. I'll re-do my install later this evening !

I found out from my client who has a mechanic shop, that the part I'm referring to is called a "coil clock spring" assembly for heated steering wheels. He said make sure the winding allows free rotation fully in both direction the wheel can turn or it will snap/damage the electrical ribbon cable feeds. So I will re-do this later tonight and also fix the issue with the wheel not being dead centered while the wheels are pointing straight. That process I'm not looking forward to! How do you know the wheels are exactly 100% pointing perfectly straight before putting the wheel back on. You would think, GM would have a notched/keyed type slip on where you could only put the wheel on exactly where it belongs! Funny thing is, I can see in my stock wheel photo above, the wheel seems slightly turned to the right just a bit vs being exactly straight. I totally missed that when I put the new wheel on last night ! Live and learn !

It's really interesting... all the videos I watch people doing the wheel swap, they literally just pull off the old and slapping on the new. I guess I didn't realize my wheel was slightly turned to the right already. I will guestimate and try again and again until I get it right. It's crazy... I'm having a deja vu moment with this but not sure why since I've never replaced a steering wheel before!!!

Carbon Fiber Interior

Hi all. New member but longtime lurker, I do want to thank all in this forum for the wealth of knowledge and advice. It's been very helpful through my researching exactly what it is I wanted to buy, and I'm pretty pumped to say I'm taking possession of my new '23 ZL1 convertible 6 speed in a couple days. (Sharkskin with carbon fiber hood insert)

I'm gonna take it easy on the mods until my factory warranty expires, but I'll be doing a Roto Fab dry CAI and an AWE touring axle back right away. I do have to say that for such an impressive piece of engineering, I think GM got a little lazy with the interior so I'd like to add a few carbon fiber inserts like what you've pictured already. Nothing too crazy, just to refine the inside a bit. It seems like everything I find just tapes on to the existing panels. For those of you who have used these does it look cheap or does it look like it could be factory installed? Can you tell it's a covering on the factory part? How's the fitment? The alternative would be to remove all the panels I want carbon fiber and have them dipped but I'm not sure if that's necessary.

Thanks in advance

Not a good update! I managed to get the winding re-done, but in all my efforts try to do so multiple times. The flat ribbon cable has become wrinkles and now it makes noises when I turn the wheel. I will either need to attempt to order additional GM parts to replace that entire assembly or wave the white flag and take it to a dealer and have them repair it. OMG, this was the worse experience of doing add-on up to this point. Also, I'm still getting the warning messages like I did a few weeks ago such as Rear Axle System Off, ESC, Power steering Angle sensor error can't reach emergency position, and a few others. I'll leave the battery disconnected over night and see what it does in the morning. But I'm not comfortable really driving the car with that ribbon cable sounding so noisy.

You can't DIY an unwound clock spring, time to head to the service department and cut your losses.

Yep ! That's where I will end up.

I do think the warning lights are just like last time I had them. It was caused by an electrical short, thus causing the warnings. Once I fixed the short (replaced the cable and gauge), everything was normal. This seems to be about the same issue, the ribbon cable is in bad bad shape at this point so I figure it's shorting out some where along the line.
