That's a cold start. The car is in preset RICH (open loop) fuel settings to help warm up the cats and get the car ready for (closed loop) normal operation as fast as possible. IIRC Law regulates the car must get from open loop to closed loop within 60 seconds. Has nothing to do with you pulling the fuse.

Pulling the fuse only differentiates itself from track mode exhaust (fuse in) by not closing the valves at cruising speed below 2000rpm in 5th or 6th gear.

Maybe it's because I have no 2ndary cats, but I couldn't tell any difference after I pulled the foam.

Thanks for the explanation, that makes sense. I think i am just going to delete my NPP and go with an AWE exhaust system.

I pulled that tube apart, stuffed rags in both ends of it and snapped it back together. Much better.

I stand corrected. I drove with the windows up and you definitely hear the fake sound more. Yuck.

I just installed a CAI air box and while I had the stock one removed I also removed that ugly sound tube from the engine compartment. I capped off both the intake tube and the firewall where the sound tube was connected. I really didn't like the sound when I simply pulled the foam out of the tube so decided to just eliminate the whole thing!

Putting my foam back in. Prefer none of the piped in sound.

What did you use to cap off the intake and firewall tube?

is there a sound difference from just removing the foam and removing the whole unit? I didn't like the sound from just removing the foam.

I have a pair of these. Should do the trick.

Ok, I just read through all 10 pages of comments in this thread ( shoot me, lol ) and I didn't see much mention of vert owners doing anything with the sound tube. Since we have a soft-top or a no-top situation, we probably hear the exhaust much more than you coupe guys, so I can't imagine that this would benefit us much. Especially since I have NPP. Pulling Fuse #51 to go all the time loud would give me plenty of sound, but really piss off my neighbors when I fire up the beast at 5am to go to the gym. lol

I am thinking that I might just remove the tube entirely so that I can reduce the noise in the cabin, since I get plenty of exhaust sound already and I do not need to add engine noise on top of the road noise that we already get in the verts.

Also, the sound tube deletion would give me a way to route wires through the firewall to get constant power for my dash cam. Bonus!

Again to clarify this is to allow more induction noise into the cabin. It has no effect on the actual air intake. A sound tube, transmits vibrations from air in the intake system to vibrate a diaphragm. Those vibrations are then transmitted through the tube and into the cabin. No actual air passes through the tube. This is the same concept as holding your ear against a door to hear the sound on the other side amplified.

Removing the sound tube has no effect on performance! Only cosmetics and maybe a few ounces of weight reduction. In fact it will reduce the induction noises heard. You are making the engine sound quieter by removing this tube.

The foam in this tube was a quick solution to fix the odd noises that were heard under cylinder deactivation in Automatics.

This thread is simply to inform people that it is possible to allow more sound into the cabin by removing the foam that is muffling the tube. It should only take 30 seconds and costs no money. If you like the sound great, if not no sweat just put the foam back in.
