I have had 4 myself from the great low powered 5.9 from the late 1996 to 2000 i loved them,then i had a 2005 srt10 which i loved.my brother has one ,my dad has a 2002 4x4.06 srt10...so we are a family of dodge truck owners,but i have driven GM cars mostly other than the great full size jimmys of the 80's..now thats a beast of a truck with 38's & a 6inch lift..

That's kind of a slap in the face to GM seeing as how they just redesigned their trucks this year....and the Ram is old. I know the Ram got a 2011 refresh...did it get a 2013 refresh too? I've never been a fan of GM/Chevy trucks...they look like an old man's truck to me.

My next truck will either be a Ram, or an F150, depending on what the 2015 F150 redesign comes out like. I thought the Atlas concept was pretty cool looking.

And yikes to that fully loaded truck pricing:

2014 Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn EcoDiesel Base Price $50,110 Price as Tested $57,025

Horribly underpowered in anything bigger than a half ton. Then again anything bigger than a half ton shouldn't even have a gas motor option. Waste of time and gas.

And yet it is rated near the Ford and GM 2500's?

I am also a GM car/ Dodge truck guy. I'm on my third Cummins powered Ram and have converted all my friends to them as well.

That's before rebates and HUGE price reduction that all Ram's have. You can easily get $12k-$15k off msrp.

you're funny. I almost spit beer all over my keyboard when I read this. I suppose a cruze looks better than a camaro too. Whatever warms your muffins. Though I don't know many people that would agree with you. You gave me a good laugh anyhow. Thanks.

Stock Sierra sheetmetal "looking more bad ass" then the Raptors wide body, Fox long travel suspension and 35" tires Maybe he's never seen a Raptor in person

This new 1/2 ton eco diesel is making 240hp/420tq which is much more hp then what even the mighty cummins was making in 1994. In fact the Cummins was still rated at 235/460 for California in 2004. This little diesel in a much lighter 1/2 has gotten noting but praise from journalists. This is exactly what people have been wanting in a 1/2 ton diesel. If 240/420 isn't enough power in a half ton then you should be looking at a HD model.

There is a reason why Ram decided to pass on the 5.0L V8 Cummins for their 1/2 ton eco-diesel.

Say what?

Gas Numbers:

GM = 360/380
Ford = 385/405
Ram = 6.4 410/429 5.7 395/410

Diesel Numbers:

GM = 397/765
Ford = 400/800
Ram = 370/800

Now my math may be a bit fuzzy, but how is the Ram horribly underpowered.....

second funniest post in this thread. You need to do your home. Also no truck is underpowered these days. I guess you weren't around in the 80s and 90s when many trucks had under 100hp and the good ones had just over 200. Dodge trucks are just as capable as any other truck made. To say they are horribly underpowered is just incorrect.

Last year Ram got a power bump to a class leading 850tq and 30,000lb trailer tow rating.

Also only 25% of HD Rams sold are gas powered and probably less then half of those are privately owned.

I have three rams in the company fleet.

05 2500 5.9 Cummins with 260k
07 2500 6.7 Cummins with almost 300k
08 2500 5.7 Hemi with 120k

All are long bed quad cabs. The 5.7 might be ok for mulling a relatively light trailer. It struggles to pull both of our trailers and cannot maintain speed in hills. Not to mention it gets about 8mpg doing so. Both diesels pull like Clydesdale horses and maintain at least 14mpg doing so. Empty they get about 23mpg on the highway, the hemi might get 14. When it comes to big trucks HP doesn't cut it. An extra 2-300 lb-ft of torque... Maybe wanna rethink your math?

For my use a gas motor in a truck is useless. YMMV

What is wrong with his math?

Is that hand calculated because 23mpg from a 05 and 07 Cummins is FREAKING AMAZING, especially with this crap ultra low sulfur fuel we've been getting and all the additional emission BS and increased displacement on the 6.7L?

I have a 03 3500 Ram 6 speed manual (which has been said gets the best mpg of modern diesels) and have never seen over 20mpg on a whole tank (all highway). On the other hand my dad's 08 Hemi 1500 4x4 quad cab gets 17mpg and thats after climbing to 4000' elevation and he drives with the lightest foot known to man. He could probably squeeze 19mpg out of it all highway in the flats. I was averaging 20.5-21mpg on a trip back from TX but it dropped down to 18-19mpg once the speed limit went up to 75mph which had big rigs up my ass and passing me and hit a few grades.
