The mind of a brake checker
Just wanted to post this here in case anyone wants to laugh.
http://www.thedrive.com/watch-this/1...telephone-pole What kind of special idiot brake checks? What's the logic in the act? You are afraid of getting rear ended so you are paying an undue amount of attention on a car that's behind you rather than what's in front of you and then you purposely try and cause an accident by hitting your brakes suddenly. It makes no sense. I hope they haven't met up with any equally stupid women/men to procreate. |

That's how road rage starts.. Next time it might be a bullet and not a telephone pole.

As hard as it may be, believe me I know, it is best to defuse the situation by backing way off in situations like this.

As long as there's been fast cars there's been idiots driving them.
Just glad no one got hurt. That should be a fun one for the wrecker to pull out without damaging. All 4 wheels off the ground. The dude was talented enough to stick it right in the middle of the chassis so it stays balanced. |

I had a woman do this to me 3 times on my morning commute a couple weeks back. I kept the speed limit but she would come around and check me. Hindsight says I should have just taken the first exit, but I didn't expect to be hunted down.

Same here. That and the insane number of uninsured drivers in the state of Michigan due to ridiculous insurance rates. Hit & run is a common occurrence because of the number of people that can't afford even basic insurance but insist on driving.

I drove an unmarked car for a few years ,after driving marked cars for almost thirty years. In a marked unit, everyone SEES you and is on good behavior. I was amazed at the idiotic driving I saw from the plain jane car.
Twice I had folks pass me on rural highways, then brake check me. Both were young guys, both were not Montana residents. Both had previous records for bad driving as well as assaults. Frankly I think it's a mental issue. They WANT to show dominance or they want to get into an altercation. So any other driver who "wrongs" them, either real or perceived, is a target. Both were surely surprised when the grill lights came on and a uniformed Trooper approached them. LOL. |

A couple of things:
1) After that initial dramatic brake check, I would have backed off, pulled over, or taken a different route. I don't care what message that sends or if the other driver thinks he/she "won", it's just not worth it to have both our cars damaged. 2) I never personally understood how people can screw up so badly making a turn. You only need to drive a car for a few days before you learn its handling characteristics and the point at which the tires will break free and under what conditions. If nothing else, traction control should save you so long as you let it do its job. Are people just constantly driving with TC off or what? Quote:
Almost everybody walks with a smile, but you'd be surprised how many are exhausting a lot of energy just to avoid snapping. Any perceived infiltration on their personal bubble will cause the inner animal to come out. For a lot of people, their car is just one of many bubbles and gives an added sense of anonymity as well. It becomes easier to think you're on the road with car vs. drivers and takes the humanity out of it. |
