A.C. draw and operation?

I just read somewhere on the inter web of knowledge that the A.C. compressor actually turns off during WOT. Does anyone know if this is true?

It disengages the compressor above a set RPM. I haven't looked at the stock tune files in a while, but most LS cars I've seen is in the 4500 rpm range.

Most cars today (pretty much all) have the a/c compressor drop out because they can not be spun to the high rpm redline and drop out at 4000 or at WOT my '86 oldsmobile did it as well. The exception would be the electric compressors found in some hybrid cars.

Almost all AC compressors disengage when you got WOT, even all the way back to the 1980's vehicles. Back then vacuum caused them to disengage, then and like now it is commanded by throttle position.
