I wish I would have gotten leather seats... I wanted an automatic and I love it. I traded in my 2014 mustang GT Track pack, manual...

I definitely agree. I've almost always gotten better millage than what my cars were rated for. Some more than others. I think this car will be one of the some that get quite a bit better than they're rated. My 1999 WS6 Trans Am was rated for 26 hwy, but I always got way better than that. I had gotten as high as 36 at times. I could drive from my house to my dad's, mostly highway with a few red lights and hills along the way, about an hour and a half away, make a couple full throttle passes around slower cars on the 2 lane roads, and still knock down 28+! Of course I don't see it getting that kind of mileage, but I definitely think it'll do way better than the 20 that it's rated for. Even if it only does what they say it will, that's still awesome in comparison, as the ZL1 has over twice the power of the TA, way more aero downforce, and larger more grippy tires.

Thank you! I am like a kid with these things. Life should not be taken too seriously and this car reminds me of that.

The A10 is going to be an awesome tranny IMHO! No doubt it will keep the engine at the perfect rpm for maximum hp. My next Camaro is going to have an auto or DCT(if an option in the "Z/28"). The 6spd is great but the auto will certainly be faster at the road course and drag strip.

American muscle = manual gearbox!

Mine is not a Zl1 but definitely faster (cammed, forged, blown) and this car does not belong with an automatic. Great thread here.

I would never, ever, consider this car in auto config. I recently dumped out of a '16 Z06 with an A8. Felt like I was driving my ATS4 with more power. I also can't really get a grip on why a car with 650 lbs of torque needs 10 gears, crazy and yeah I get the deal about always being in the power the band. There is just a point where the car does nothing more than shift via some algorhythm that the guys in the white coats cooked up on some Microsoft program.

Automatic transmissions are not for me. I, too, get the point about always being in the power band, but constant gear changes don't make for enjoyable daily driving. I love the way manual transmissions can snap from gear to gear and love the SOUND and feel of on and off the throttle while so doing. On the other hand, I hate the boring nature of instant shifts that are manufactured by software. Add to this the fact that there are ten gears and I couldn't fathom never ending gear changes. To me, quick shift and Dual Clutch transmissions are soulless. Faster would never be my priority over driving enjoyment which I equate to a manual gearbox. I suppose it is preferred for the track but what % of miles will be on the track vs. everything else?

I think manuals are great and all of my cars from high school until about 25 years of age have been manuals, but living in a metropolitan city such as Dallas the freeways are absolute parking lots, coming and going except weekends. And to me this played a major factor in my decision to get an A10. I came from the world of motorcycles, which to me provide the most thrilling and visceral experience one can have on dry land. I would never consider an automatic motorcycle, but for some reason I feel like it's OK to indulge in the automatic in the ZL1.

I want to relax and enjoy the car. I feel like manuals don't provide the same luxury. You're induced to drive harder in most situations because you are totally "in control" and I really understand that feeling, but to me at nearly 40 years old, I like my remote start and I like to have a fast car to cruise at the speed limit, knowing there's plenty of power on tap. I'm seldom in a rush these days, but I can appreciate the engineering that went in to this ZL1.

It has paddle shifters that allow for more control if I so desire. I love to cruise so I may not BEAT you there, but I'll MEET you there.

100% with you and your preference. Automatics are unquestionably the way to go for drag racing but I am sooooo done with that. I took a big loss on a '16 A8 because I couldn't stand the transmission. Car was crazy fast but wasn't much different than driving a BMW, Mercedes, or Cadillac. I'll be done with performance cars when the manuals are no longer available.

Same here speedy. When they kill the manual on performance cars and I'm tired of whatever manual I'm driving then I'm done plain and simple and will just keep a fun dd (audi s4, accord V6, maxima, g37s) etc.

I stupidly tried a DCT on my 16 M3 because it seems to be preferred. I too will be taking a huge loss six months in just to get away from that transmission. This car is also crazy fast but I'm so bored with it that I don't even drive it anymore. So looking forward to my six speed ZL1 - never to stray again from a manual.

I feel you on this, I had an M4 DCT and sold it. I like technology and it was a very fast transmission but it was jerky at lower speeds. The ZL1 is unreal and to be honest, is so much better. You're gonna love it and you don't really sacrifice anything. Every time I see an M4 drive by, I don't miss it one bit. The manual trans on this car is crazy good. Short throws, tight shifts. Awesome. Everything about the ZL1 is amazing.

I like the idea of the new A10 but its just too many gears, sorry A10 guys. At the end of the day the manual is more satisfying and many years from now as I have learned with other cars, people will be hunting for manuals.

Good to see a fellow convert!
