The problem with the Golf R is that you cannot really drive it past 8/10ths. If you do, it understeers horribly and just isn’t fun.
That said, if you want the best “car”, the Golf R probably wins. It’s comfortable, practical and doesn’t grab negative attention. If you care about performance, then there just isn’t any comparison between the two. The Camaro isn’t just slightly better, it’s WAY better. I went from a Focus RS to the 2SS 1LE myself, so I made a similar change. |

You gotta put the stiffest rear sway bar you can find on the rear and maybe some more front neg camber. No more front end push.

Finally made it to my first track event today, at Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw SC. The event was 10 laps over two sessions, following an instructor. It was intended for beginners, so highway speeds and no passing. I'm not an experienced performance driver, so this was a huge adrenaline rush, even under the safety restrictions. The 2ss 1le was incredible on the track. I never really got above low 80s mph, and I barely had to brake into the corners at all. This thing is a legit race car. I highly recommend CMP and the event organizer, Turn One Performance. They did an outstanding job herding a large group of drivers at various skill levels, in vehicles ranging from a mini to c8s, a supra, it's and an Aston Martin. If anyone has recommendations for a good shop in the Charlotte area, I'd appreciate it. I need tow hooks, high temp brake fluid, etc for my next outing!

Cool update! Glad to hear you had a blast on the track!
These things are beasts, I can't wait to take mine on the track. Otherwise, this is one hell of a daily driver. I barely ever have even 1 passenger, so the small cabin size doesn't bother me. In fact, it feels roomy to me as my other vehicle is an older Ford Ranger which is teeny tiny. It makes the drive home from work the most effective stress reliever ever. Really stressed? Guess I'm taking the long way home Only thing is rainy days/winter time sucks.. I just want to be in it instead of the truck |

My fault for adding to an old post... I got one, revived the original thread to report on first track outing. Now looking for recommendations on shops around Charlotte to install tow hooks, flush brakes etc.
