This is insane. GPS hardware is so cheap nowadays how is it not standard on cars to be able to track it? We’ve been able to locate our $1000 phones anywhere anytime for years. Still boggles my mind this can’t apply to cars.

Don't track it, avoid it...

A ZLE sitting in a driveway??? Seriously??? Whatever is in your garage is worth FAR less (and is in FAR less demand), get it out and get the car in there...

Secondly, use a Multi-Layered approach... My car isn't a ZLE, but it is a 2SS, I guarantee you they would not have gotten my car anywhere near that quickly... (First, it is in a garage with another car behind it, but regardless of that), I have instituted a "multi-layered approach" to theft deterrence which includes several mechanical deterrents and multiple electrical deterrents... There will be so much confusion on why things aren't working (on multiple levels) that I am hoping they will just abandon the car and look for an easier target (there are plenty, such as this ZLE in this story)... Perhaps leaving me with nothing more than maybe a broken drivers window (But if they see the multiple "mechanical" devices in play prior to breaking the window they may just realize this one isn't even worth the effort because there are likely a LOT of layers in play beyond what they can see (which there VERY definitely are!)...

Layer 1...

At Jersey Mike's for a 20 minute lunch... (Yep, even 20 minutes gets the full lock down...)

The guy said it was his dream car... OK... put it in the damn garage then! None of these cars should be outside IMO!

Multiple layers on mine as well. It would still suck dealing with a cut steering wheel and a broken window though so I try not to leave it sitting unattended for hours

From what I could see looks like the OBD port method was used.

I like the idea a a fake OBDII port! How did you do it? Just unconnect the real port and stuff it under the dash and install a dummy connector in the bracket?

[QUOTE=DansZL1-1LE;11427037]I like the idea a a fake OBDII port! How did you do it? Yes, unconnect the real port and stuff it under the dash and install a dummy connector in the bracket. what you simply do is unhinge the original one/relocate it up under the dash and install a fake one in the factory mounting bracket, not fool proof but it buys time.

Or just get an Igla... and unless they flatbed / tow it, it isn't going anywhere.

Why don't they focus on Mustangs?
Those blend in better as there are more of them on the roads... Guess these thieves are focused on high torque monsters like Challengers and Camaro's to participate in street takeovers.

I always park my ZL1 inside.

If you don't have the ability to park inside, ensure that you have additional theft deterrent systems on the car. There is so much news coverage on car theft, if you don't take measures and go with the (unfortunate) times , it is your own fault.

In the ideal perfect world people would respect others' property, but that is not reality.

And make sure to add an OBD port lock on the dummy, such as:

(See post #250 for pictures, tips, and a link.)
