Suggestion for replacement rotors and pads 2017 2SS

Hi guys! Needing to replace rotors and pads for 2017 2SS. Mechanic friend said to go with cross drilled rotors. Any of you replaced yours and have suggestion for a good brand that will last besides going with OEM replacement? Thanks for any info.!

IMO it's a hard no on cross-drilled rotors. On our cars (and practically every car with steel rotors) there's no performance benefit and they'll fail (crack) sooner than a non-drilled rotor.

No rotors I know of that I'd recommend over OE. If they're burnished properly with new pads I'm betting they're the best option for the price/longevity/performance balance on the SS w/o upgrading to one of the higher-trim car's brake packages.

Different pad options depending on use. If you're willing to give up performance but have less dust, a carbon-ceramic like powerstop Z26 or Hawk PC could work well. If tracking, OE or something slightly more aggressing would be better suited.

I went with Powerstop Z26 for street use. They’ve been on the car since last September. They work for my use and I’d buy them again.

Not to revive an old post, but these are the following difficulties.

1. Camaro 6th gen has ceased production, which has apparently affected OEM GM replacement rotors (at least at time of this writing)

2. Installing a $3.5k 6 piston package (rotors for these are about $500 a piece once you need them again) is a bit extreme, especially in this horrible economy with 12%+ inflation

3. Most... if not all non-GM OEM equivalent rotors are made in China now (no thanks)

I landed on EBC as a nice OEM 2SS (4 piston brembo front calipers) alternative for rotors, and cool part is they are sold in pairs. , individually inspected for run out, and ARE NOT MADE IN CHINA (woot!!)

https://www.ebcbrakes.com/vehicle/us...20(6th%20Gen)/

FYI My 2SS is a 6 speed manual, uncertain if the rear rotors are same for auto trans

Rear Rotors - EBC RK7736 (13.30in diameter) - $235 for pair ($117.50 /each)
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/ebc-rk7736

Front Rotors - EBC RK7734 (13.60in diameter) - $186 for pair ($93 /each)
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/ebc-rk7734

One of the more meaningful things I have done to my brakes is installed braided steel brake lines all the way around, braking has definitely improved, as well as my clutch feel.

Or pick your flavor of brake lines here
https://www.phastekperformance.com/p...s-brake-lines/

I also switched out the DOT3 fluid for Motul DOT 5.1 (DOT4 is very dry and needs to be flushed every year, 5.1 is every 2, DOT3 is ... well usually more than that)
Since I have the manual, the brake fluid and clutch share the same reservoir (and no I don't want to modify it with the extra GTO reservoir for the clutch), so I need to flush every 2 years anyways.
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/mtl-100951
A flush job needs about 1.25 containers (725ml) of Motul 5.1

In case pads are needed, Hawk PC (Performance Ceramic Pads) are a great low dust street pad. I use the OEM Brembo pads for more demanding situations (track or mountain cruises).

Front - HB726Z.582 $234
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/hwk-hb726z-582

Rear - HB727Z.592 $155

Hope this post helps others

P.S. Dont be a newb and get drilled and slotted rotors. Current thought is plain surfaced rotors are superior, slotted was a solution to a gassing problem between rotor surface and pad that no longer exists with current technology pads. The less surface area you have that contacts the rotor, the slower your braking speeds, it's quite simple

Could not agree more.
