That’s great! So glad this helped you. Since I first started this thread I have added one more thing I do. I now keep my car’s battery on a charger any time the car is going to sit for a couple of days. I only drive it 1-2 times per week. I do this as I’ve found keeping the battery fully charged really compliments the ground cable to make the hot start anxiety go away.

I tried installing the same way OP did by cutting a slot in the ear and sliding the cable under the same serpentine belt bolt, but when I attempted to tighten that bolt back in to spec it destroyed the end of the cable. I'm gonna order a new one, but is there a good alternate location that I can attach the cable to this time?

Just curious - how much torque did you put on that bolt? I tightened mine by feel - no torque wrench used. I haven’t needed to touch that bolt in three years.

Update: Instead of ordering a new cable I cut off the damaged ring terminal and took it to an audio electronics store where they put a new ring terminal on for only $6. Then I put in on the water pump using a 1/2 inch longer bolt like the other posts have talked about. So far it's worked great. Thank you to everyone on this thread!

I have been dealing with this since I bought the car in 2016, but I still only have 22k miles on it. That said, I have put 7 batteries in my car.
I have purchased the ground cable and am awaiting it's arrival. Question...When it won't start, are you saying that I could have connected my negative jumper cable between these two areas and the car should start? I'll have to give it a try while I wait for the cable to arrive. Anyone else know??

I'd started to run into the car slow cranking or not wanting to start without my portable jumper pack after having driven and parking it for several minutes so I did just this.
I used a 24" 2/0 AWG with 3/8" lugs on both ends from WindyNation on Amazon. Mounted it from the factory body post to the sound tube bracket. You would definitely have more room to play with routing if you had a longer cable (27-30"), but it can be done with a 24". I did not need to do any hardware replacement, the sound tube bolt is plenty long to attach back securely. We'll see how it tests, I did this last night and haven't taken the car out yet. I also have a quick disconnect connected directly to the battery in the trunk that I use a 1.25amp Bettery Tender on when I'm not driving the car to keep the battery topped off. The Battery Tender is nice because it automatically does charge and float. |

So far it seems better. Did a 15 minute drive and a 10 minute stop, another 15 minute drive and an hour stop. First restart was a touch slow, second was flawless. These are improvements over previous for sure. Also topped up the coolant reservoir! |

LOL This has to be the worlds longest thread. I know I have posted a couple times in here on one of the pages. Hadn't drove the car in awhile and decided to give the C7 and C8 a break. Damn I forgot that I had this notorious issue. Was all prepared to finally order an Optima for it today and Oreilly's calls and says battery is fine. I did the front and rear additional cables, the fuse swap, etc. Only thing left is to replace damn starter and hope the best I guess. I have a blower so wondering if that additional pulley isnt helping but I cant imagine it being an issue. She just wants to be stubborn I guess.
