There is no such thing as too much horsepower, just not enough traction.
Carol Shelby So how does everyone get there? I know there are lots of you pushing 1000 HP plus, let's hear how you stick it to the ground! |

Why get there, have you driven a 1000 rwhp car? You can't control it even with best drag radial on the market. Realistically 700 to 800 is somewhat manageable as I've had both. The cost difference between 700 to 800 and 1000 is considerable. I can build a 1000 rwhp cause I have the funds but I choose not to because its not useable. But, everybody thinks that's what they want. Go for it, plenty of threads on how to get there.

So go fast, have the best handling /driving car that you can. I isn't all about RWHP....IMO So what performance mods have you guys done to improve track / driveability.....where you can maximize the RWHP you have? |

I chose to limit mine to what I currently have. Any more like said is unusable on the street. I run ps4s tires and am satisfied for my type of driving, don't track the car.

#facts Once a new tire that is like the PS4S, that is, not a massive compromise in every other way just to provide enough dry grip for a launch, comes out, us who mostly drive on the street can go further in power. Until then it makes no sense. Those that run it will correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I read, even the Nitto 555RII can't hold crazy 800+ lb-ft torque levels even at low speed rolls, let alone at launch. Either tire technology needs to drastically improve (unlikely), or the Camaro needs to get all-wheel drive (even more unlikely).

Mine put down 760 with a poor tune, I cannot imagine having 1000 on the street.
Putting the pedal down anytime short of 4th and things get very loose. Sometimes even the top of 4th can be troublesome, on one of my final pulls when King was finishing up my tune I got sideways at the top of 4th with none of the nannies on. I love the power at certain times I just wanted more control of how and when. I put the smoothboost on and now I can limit boost when I want, yet at the push of a button have full boost available. Around town 5-6lbs of boost is more than enough for me and will keep the tires under the car.

So I used to race sport bikes on the weekends and I kind of treat high horsepower cars the same as bikes when you start going up in CC's and eventually hoping them up for the track. You can get in just as much danger on a 600cc bike as a 1000cc fully modded track bike, the difference is the experience and the respect for the extra power. My stock lt1 with 455 crank horsepower would have been extremely suicidal for 18 year old me, for 44 year old me I know that if I floor the gas from a dead stop while making a turn the back end is going to break loose traction control or not. I usually turn my traction control off any ways cause I like going sideways...but I am certainly not surprised it is going to happen. If I am launching with the traction control off i am feathering the throttle to keep it from breaking loose. I am really looking forward to getting 7-800 rear wheel but yeah I am old enough to know to respect it too

This is a very good thread for people that say I want 1k rwhp but they really haven't started the process. They can see what its actually about having that kind of power. Take myself for instance...... my inital goal was 600rwhp and once I got started the skys were the limits. At this point I have surpassed my inital goal and the reality has set it in. Driving a street car when will I ever use what I have? Heck I do hits from time to time just to make sure the meth still sprays. Full boost has only been had a few times so this current level is more than enough for me. With that I'm good.

I think the most fun power is 650 to 700. A set of drag radial on the street will control the majority of the power. You can't really make a hit from a dig but 40 to 50 mph leaving the TC on you can really haul some has. My car run 9.80@142.96 on 707. Plenty of fun and I keep the stock exhaust so I can sneak up on those who think the have 1000 hp or at least say they do. Some get butt hurt but that's the fun of it, however some will run off from your 700 rwhp, still fun either way.

I don't know how much HP I have I have tried PS4 and Nitto 555 (run them for many decades). Now that I'm in Hawaii the 555 don't have enough wet traction so I run PS4. The roads in Texas seem to have a nice dry coat of granite and the roads in Hawaii seem to have a very high tar content this is offset somewhat by the pointy or sharp texture of the lava rock base. IN contrast there are some coast states that seem to have high tar content and much smoother rock, these states offer less traction IMO of course. I assume the high tar content if for wet conditions and keeps the stones more locked in. Anyway the most dependent thing is if is an auto or a manual. My car with traction control off must absolutely be babied in the upsifts 1 to 2 and 2 to 3, it will absolutely fishtail and can under some conditions make you get new bibs. WOT can be had even optimal conditions to the top of 3rd gear. WOT is completely out in first and say cold Fall night can't be used in 2nd either. No way to use no lift shift or any type of speed shifting cause you will die. The car can literally hop 1/2 a lane on faster shifts or too much power being applied. IMO a manual is limited to say 600 WHP on PS4s on my centri setup (way less mid range torque). Sure your millage may vary. I also owned two supercharged Challengers and street smackdown many more, these cars are even more limited by traction and really as funny as it sounds a TrackHawk is probably the better drivetrain package. I will say with traction control on the car is a drift king, I've done many turns with a application of power the car will drift to a point that traction control to straighten it out, sometimes I feel like an autoX professional, in turn apply a little throttle car drifts and traction control pulls it straight down the road, it has taken me years to get use to this but it is fun. This may work on an auto but since you never know what gear or slip of the converter, you just don't have the direct feel of the road and rear balance, and um no don't try to nail the throttle in a turn or once again the shiny side turns over in the ditch. Just a smooth application of the throttle usually in 2nd gear and the car will just drift.. I also have a manual supercharged Miata that does the same thing...
