Diff swap! (Installing an LSD manual trans differential into an Auto trans car)
Quote:
I bet a stall would cost more than a used diff. Circle D charges $1200 (plus core exchange) for an 8l90 converter... I'm guessing roughly the same, as long as custom crap isn't needed for an 8l45, so figure $1200, plus you'd have to provide them with a core 8l45 converter to the tune of about $~350... I like the idea of a 3800-4000ish stall converter, but as it is, I can't even launch at max stall on the stock converter at the drag strip. Of course, I attribute a lot of this to my ghetto drag tires. A guy would have to have some good tires to properly utilize a higher stall converter at the track. The tuning probably isn't bad. My G8 has a 3000ish stall converter, and tuning changes were minimal to get everything working properly. *edit* well I sent circle d an email, they're considering the 8l45 custom at this time, and the custom department is booked up until spring time, they said to check back then. I was looking in the V8 section recently and noticed that Circle D is no longer requiring the use of a stock core. I believe they have a full billet piece now.
