I got the letter from GM/Chevrolet about a month ago, called the dealership, they "ordered" it. Hadn't heard anything for a while so I checked with them yesterday and they said it's on backorder.?? WTF?! Why is GM sending out a letter saying the retro fit is available, then my dealership says it's backordered? Not that I'm in a hurry to have it done, it doesn't bother me that I don't have it, just confused as to how it's "available" but it's " backordered" also...

Does the rear cross traffic alert work now? I m getting mine done in two weeks and all i care about is the rear cross traffic alert when backing up from parking lots. The system suppose to warn you and show direction of the incoming traffic behind you. I care less about distance warnings while parking. People don’t tend to care when a car backs up from a parking spot and assume they have the right away and it is very frustrating. The guy backing up has no visibility so it is wise to wait for that person. Any thoughts guys?
These are two different features. One (RPA or rear park assist) is driven off of rear radar sensors and displays an active radar bar image in the cluster, see below; the other one (RCTA or rear cross traffic alert) depends on different object sensors and displays arrows in the infotainment screen, also along with an audible signal.

I have a pre-refresh car and am not sure which of the two is covered by the recall/notification, it could be both actually.

As to backing out of parking spaces, cars already in motion have right of way, one can neither impede their progress nor force them to steer out of their lane. That said, allowing people with no electronic aids in their cars/trucks to back out of a space with no visibility is a kind gesture.
