Installing of the rear wheel bearing hub to the front
Hi everyone!
I have a problem with my front right wheel bearing hub, it makes loud sound. I am living not in US so I don’t have ACDelco part in stock. I found that rear and front wheel bearing hubs almost the same but the difference only is in metal cap on the front bearing. I guess it’s a protection out of dust. I am not sure 100% that it’s suitable. Please, if you have some information about it or already installed this way, would be nice to hear your answer! Thank you in advance! |

Best I can tell is that they are functionally identical except the rear is provissioned for the axle shaft splines and nut, and the front has the dust cap.
GM part numbers 13542186 Rear and Front. EDIT: 13542187 Curiously and for reference. The CTS AWD, same basic architecture as Camaro, uses the same hub part number front & rear. On the RWD version, the CTS uses the same part numbers as the Camaro... Last edited by GXP08jrf; 01-14-2023 at 07:31 AM. |

Yes, that’s right. I also found that Cadillac cts, ats have the same bearings as Camaro. The question is why Camaro has different bearings on the front and rear wheels. As I know Camaro 5 had same bearings on front and rear wheels. I checked all parameters of front and rear bearings for Camaro 6 and it’s the same. The difference only in metal cap. But I am still not sure 100% that’s replaceable😂

The catalog brings up the first part no. as both front and rear for me, while the second one says "F (S) Plug" and only costs $14...

Because the CTS has both RWD and AWD versions, they have some applications with the spline on the front to accomodate a driveshaft. I presume that because on RWD cars the hub is not machined for the splines and is incrementally less expensive (for GM to purchase from the supplier) because it has less processing. If I were in the OP's situation, and can't get a front-specific hub, I'd buy the rear and see how it goes. You may need to replace it more frequently due to more exposure to the elements because it lacks the dust cover. What I don't know is if the dust cover has any "structural benefit" to keeping the seals in place that would otherwise be accomplished by the axle shaft and nut. I tend to think not, but I'm not an expert. Last edited by GXP08jrf; 01-14-2023 at 07:54 AM. |

Concerning the metal cap that has been mentioned at the front bearing. If we are talking about the cover bolted at the inside of the front knuckle, I think you may be speaking of just a dirt and water shield to protect the otherwise exposed bearing. It has no connection to the bearing other than to protect it. And yes, the same bolts that fasten the bearing to the knuckle also fasten the shield. The bearing itself doesn't have a shield that is anything different found on the rear. Here is a pic of the dust shield found at the back of the knuckle.
From everything you fellas have dug up, I wouldn't have any reservations on trying the rear bearing on the front. The shield would merely be reused with the new bearing. I had removed all four of my bearings to add longer wheel studs. I have pictures somewhere.

It's presumably a press fit cap to protect the bearing seal.
Rear with the splines is on the right in the image, front with the seal is on the left. Otherwise thay're nearly identical. Images snipped from the web. |

I don't recall my fronts having that, but I could be wrong for sure. I'll have to dig up the pics I took of my fronts on my '22 SS 1LE.

Thanks everyone!
That’s good to know, so I can take rear wheel hub. That’s perfect for me because I can take it without any problems and for the good price! |

do these come with the 3 bolts that hold it to the knuckle? i noticed today when i took mine apart, the bolts had red locktite on them. had yellow on the caliper bolts and green on the axle to diff bolts. i think GM says EVERYTHING is a 1 time use and curious if they apply the different locktites to the bolts from the factory.

The caliper bolts and the wheel bearing bolts are reusable. Clean off the old loctite, apply new loctite, reinstall. New wheel bearing bolts are NOT included with the wheel bearings. Yes, the halfshaft to diff bolts must be replaced per GM.

See this PDF of GM's rear suspension fastener info: SUSPENSION REAR FASTENER TORQUE SPECS.pdf Do you have a YouTube channel with the white ZL1 1LE? I caught the video of the damage. Ouch.
