Parade question
With the recent weekend, I was curious how safe it is to have people sit on the convertible hardtop cover with feet in the back seat.

Safe in what way? for the riders or the car?
It is as safe for the riders as the drivers right foot. in a controlled environment like a parade, unless the driver gooses the gas, the riders should be fine. regarding the car... i dunno, since it was a chevy sponsored event (the indy 500 parade, is where i saw this) i have to assume that chevy endorsed this usage. however, if it was my car, i think that would be a no thank you. i wouldn't want someone's butt scratching things up.

Biggest issue would be someone putting weight on the plastic panels on the side and damaging them. I’m talking about the panels that open and close with the operation of the top.

If it's your car, honestly I wouldn't unless it was a small adult or child and just the one. Seems like a great way to not just scratch stuff up but mess with the locking mechanism and all the moving parts or even the rear window glass if things get too compressed.
If you absolutely want to do it, i'd put down a thick microfiber cloth folded up as a seat, or maybe even one of those stadium chair cushions (with a microfiber cloth underneath) to distribute the weight a bit better.
